I’m not making any claim about motivations or morals or modern activist groups, simply pointing out that secession is not generally the historical sin that blacks hold against the southern states.

That's not strictly correct. The Constitution was ratified in each state not by the legislature but by a convention elected for that purpose.

The ratification of the conventions of nine states, shall be sufficient for the establishment of this Constitution between the states so ratifying the same.(Article VII).

pardon me, but that is NOT an answer to the QUESTION, that i asked.

the TRUTH is that TX v. White, like the Dredd Scott, Plessy v. Fergurson & Roe v. Wade are DECISIONS of the USSC, which (on their face) are UN-Constitutional.

it's called MAKING NEW LAW, rather than INTERPRETING the Constitution. also, TX v White was AFTER the WBTS, thus it has NO validity for the 1861-65 period.

NOPE. it is called POLITICS. lincoln, like "wee willie klintoon", would SAY and/or DO anything to GET elected & GET AHEAD.

regardless of the "lincoln myth", lincoln was no better/worse than clinton as POTUS. he was simply a cheap, scheming politician. (NOTE: getting killed does NOT make you a saint. lincoln & jfk were BOTH UNworthy of the "secular sainthood" which the media placed upon their memory.)

NOTHING that would advance their WISHES, power and/or EGOMANIA was "out of bounds". NEITHER would tolerate disagreement with their demands. NEITHER tolerated criticism well (lincoln, for example, JAILED many newspapermen in a dungeon at Ft McHenry for publishing critical comments about him, without even the pretense of an indictment, warrant or trial. they were simply JAILED!)

the FACTS are that those two were the WORST presidents ever.

I know what you are referring to but some of my family served with NC Infantry (47th) so I’m more familiar with the history. I did do a little survey of my husband’s family (westerners) and none of them had any idea what you were referring to, sorry to say.

Do you, as a reader, know where you are and what is about to happen?

Yes, sadly I do...

I don't think you're neighbors were wrong to oppose the rebellion, even at the risk of being attacked as rebels themselves. Keep on reading, and learning, and you may be surprised at what you discover and come to believe.

What I see today as a result of it is sufficient. The CSA was closer to the intent of the founders. Lincoln in effect tore up the U.S. Constitution. Note the withdrawals from the Unions by the states were the choice of the majority living in them. They were done by the state elected governing bodies and vote of the people and as such we as valid as tour withdrawal from Great Britain.

The end result is what we have today. A federal governmnet which is far more powerful than founders intent especially the office of POTUS which is inching closer to become a throne for a dictator. The past seven years it seems there is no power congress will not in direct violation of the Constitution give POTUS nor do they blink an eye taking more and more say away from individual states. That was the Pandora's Box Lincoln opened.

inasmuch as 20% of Americans cannot find the USA on a world map, perhaps you are presuming more KNOWLEDGE than 90% of people have???

further a recent survey of HS grads (of the "publick screwl edgeumakashun sistim") do NOT know what CENTURY that WWII was fought!!! (this is especially sad, inasmuch as many of the grads have LIVING family members who were IN the war.)

Hi, Stand!

My husband brought a Cherokee history book home from Washington yesterday; I was reading it until the brothers woke up the baby.

I might not have made it clear. It was the 18th North Carolina Infantry Regiment.

You are right... my dilemma is how much biography do I have to write when introducing Jackson, Lee, Stuart, Grant, Sheridan, Hancock, etc.

So, I was checking to see if my opinion that Civil War buffs would understand where and when the book opened by that line.

I did an informal survery today among some folks. Besides Lee and Grant... the majority did not know who Jackson, Stuart, Sheridan, Reynolds were. I thought is rather sad too.

I’m a huge Lincoln fan, like most real Americans. That’s why he has that huge Memorial on the bank of the Potomac.

My favorite part of the Civil War was the Emancipation Proclamation. It caused absolute havoc in the Confederacy. Tens of thousands of blacks left southern farms and plantations and headed for Union Army lines. By the end of the war the North had 180,000 additional black troops who were armed and trained to go kill their former owners.
