My cellphone has not stopped ringing for the past ten minutes. Various sources inform that an announcement will come within the next few minutes from the Cuban government on Cuban TV and media. Stay tuned and we'll see if we've been manipulated once again or if today is the birth date of Cuba's liberty.
Update: Here's the deal and what I know up to now, as of 1500 hours, August 24, 2007:
First, South Florida Law Enforcement is on alert. An EOC (Emergency Operations Center) has been set-up and manned somewhere in Homestead.
Im also told Local and State government agencies have food, bottled water, and other necessities - valued in the millions - stored and/or staged in Homestead at or near the EOC.
I am presently verifying whether Coast Guard and DHS and Border Patrol agencies are on high alert. (Verified 01445)
Local News stations are abuzz, mostly on reports very much like the above, with massive law enforcemnt mobilizations throughout Dade county.
Local emergency medical services notified to be on alert by law enforcement agencies.
Im told - and still awaiting confirmation - that buses in Havana have been recalled to terminals and that Cuban workers have been sent home. (still unconfirmed 1500)
Again, I am loathe to publish the title as I did in this post, but I would be remiss in not telling you all what I know, right now. All of my sources are good but the Cuban government, as we all know, is masterful at controlling media and information and we should not rule out that this and last Friday's "news" have been and are feelers to see what the reactions are here, as well as who reacts within the island. If we've been duped we've been duped. If not, then bust out the champagne.
Once again, these may all be rumor to discredit us and other media sources. All we can do is exactly what we've been doing for quite some time now: wait and see.
More from Killcastro, with sources from within Cuba.
Though I don't have any hard data to back it up, my gut feeling has always been that Cubans have been waiting for Castro to die before overthrowing the commies. It seems as if they have Stockholm Syndrome.
Stogie smokers will be ecstatic.
Probably it’s all there because it is hurricane season.
“Other concerns centre on pledges by some Cuban exiles in the US that they will head south in boats to pluck stricken refugees to safety, or even to lead an uprising.
The drill resulted in the fine-tuning of contingency plans for thwarting outbound exiles. Measures would include shutting down marinas in Florida, stopping road vehicles seen towing boats, and even restricting fuel sales.”
Whatever it takes.
Sounds slow and painful :-)
I see we have forgotten the lessons of the boat lifts.
Whenever things get dicey in Cuba, a bunch of people jump onto barely floating things and head north. If there is a military crack-down, post-Castro, that would start one. If a military insurrection ensues, that would start one. If Raul Castro broke wind really loud, that would start one...
Well, that makes sense, but then why are they mentioning it? If they are American supplies needed for Americans in the event of a hurricane, imo, they weren’t supplied for misuse on unwanted invaders.
He’s got to go sometime. I’ll be glad when they can confirm it.
CASTRO DIES - GOES TO HELL
BTW, wasn't there a Star Trek episode about some leader who died but was made to seem alive?
“Sounds slow and painful :-)”
Yes it does.
This is concerning ... it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Putin started schmoozing and flexing more muscle to insert himself into Cuba’s business to thwart Pres. Bush.

Cuba modernizes air fleet
with Russian planes
By GILDA FARIÑAS RODRIGUEZ Granma International staff writer
IN Cuba, where tourism is one of the main industries that sustain the economy, the renewal of the civilian aeronautical fleet remains a national investment priority, particularly given that almost all visiting tourists arrive by air.
Alert to this need, this past year Cuban authorities negotiated the purchase of several IL 96-300 and TU 204-100 airplanes from the Russian Federation. The first of the three expected TU 204s, a medium range cargo plane, has reached the island.
The press was informed that the remaining two to be used for passenger travel should arrive before the end of the year. Cubana Airlines has already received three IL 96-300 airliners that will cover long distance flights and strengthen the commercial fleet.
As a part of recent agreements, Cuba and Russia have decided to further develop cooperation in this area and in the professional training of airline employees in both countries.
The need is an established reality since in 2006 Cuba became the preferred Caribbean and Latin American destination for Russians. 25,000 travelers from the country, the largest in the world, visited the island that year.
Jim, él está muerto?
Fidel who? Gallager, the watermelon smashing comedian used to show a map of Florida hanging southward toward Cuba “taking a wiz” on the island nation.
The original post sounds like the rantings of a lunatic. Lunatics are notorious for adding 2 + 2 and getting 1 million.
Breaking: Cuban blogers will soon be dead, (claims living (but barely) Fidel Castro.
I have a feeling you're correct; meet the new boss...same as the old boss.
He’s just resting. Lovely plumage!
Putin’s making friends with all the wrong people, isn’t he..
