Unfortunately there are many who abuse the handicap system which makes it more difficult for those who truly need it.Exactly. I lost all respect for the system after the nth time I saw someone zip into a handicapped spot, put up the tag, jump out of the car and run into the mall. It's infuriating.

"I saw someone zip into a handicapped spot, put up the tag, jump out of the car and run into the mall. It's infuriating." did you see the pain shooting up that person's spine? Were they runnign becauseeach step hurt adn they wanted to get in as quickly as possible? Were they running because someone they care about was inside in need of help? or are you simply playing into stereotypes?

I lost all respect for the system after the nth time I saw someone zip into a handicapped spot, put up the tag, jump out of the car and run into the mall. It's infuriating. My wife and I had one because of the medical condition of our daughter. We were both completely capable of running into a store. In our case, on those occasions when we did need it, it was a Godsend. We didn't use it unless there were still a couple of open spaces still available. We used it perhaps 30 times or so and I never experienced any comments - not once. I will say I have delivered some, but not before looking to see if the car has credentials. Beyond that it's not my call and it is not yours either. You are welcome to fume away in ignorance.

Exactly. I lost all respect for the system after the nth time I saw someone zip into a handicapped spot, put up the tag, jump out of the car and run into the mall. It's infuriating. You can't tell that my buddy has any sort of physical problem. He's really quite nimble for a guy who lost his leg to a mine in the 'Nam...
I usually have no opinion on these things for that reason - and the fact that I generally park very far away for the solitude and exercise.

I know it's a "Big Brother" solution.
BUT, at the least the signs warning about the penalty for abusing
the handicap parking scheme...should post an extra sign saying that
the parking area is under video surveillance and that tickets may
be issued if such conduct is recorded.
All that would have to be done is put such a system at a few
random locations and do said enforcement...on the fakers that
do the wind-sprint in and out of the bidness.
Word would get around to the cheaters when a few of their ilk
get some high-fine tickets in the mail. And can't fight it because
of incontrivertible video evidence.
