Oil and gas companies prepare for Hurricane Dean

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Energy companies in the Gulf of Mexico were removing small numbers of employees from harm's way and preparing to shut down some oil and gas operations as Hurricane Dean barrels its way across the Caribbean towards the Gulf.

Power’s off in eastern and southern sections of the island, and curfew has been instituted in a large number of commercial and industrial areas ‘til 6pm Monday. Kingston’s dark. Much of this was a planned shutdown to protect the system. Help promised by US, Brazil, Venezuela (yeah, right), Bermuda, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The FOX live shot from Kingston at 5:10 looked like the peak. Very dark with heavy sheets of horizontal rain and nobody cavorting in the streets. The shot at 5:25 looked like it had let up. Still gusty, but a few cars back out, and not as dark.
