Hurricane Dean Live Thread Part II
NOAA/NHC ^ | August 19, 2007 | NOAA/NWS

Posted on 08/19/2007 3:52:51 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Dean is moving west-northwest through the Caribbean Sea. The current NHC forecast track indicates Dean's powerful center core will pass just south of the southwestern peninsula of Haiti, and should skirt Jamaica's southern shoreline. The storm maintained strong Category 4 wind status through the night during an eyewall replacement cycle. However, the minimum pressure supports Category 5, and additional strengthening of winds is likely.

Tourists in Jamaica crowded airports Saturday to leave the island nation. Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller addressed the Jamaican people, asking that everyone put aside their political differences and work together in advance of the imminent storm preceding Jamaica's general election scheduled for August 27. PM Miller announced that the Jamaican power grid and water would likely be shut down early Sunday morning in advance of the storm, and strongly urged citizens to seek shelter.

The United States and Barbados have pledged hurricane relief supplies and support to Jamaica as needed. No word yet from the United Nations...

I think it is an inappropriate if not disgusting comment for this thread.

I can’t tell by your post if you are agreeing with me or the poster that made the comment.

I was going to say it this way......Mexico needs workers at 16.00 an hour to rebuild Cozumel and Cancun. Other work will exist inland as the storm moves on. (ROVE you magnificent Bastard!)

That’s un-called for.

Is it not true? Argue the honesty of my post not the fact that it hurts your feelings.

I’m saying this is a poor place and circumstance to bring your angst about the immigration situation. It’s crass and beneath the level of FR.

I’ll not continue the conversation on this thread though, as most people are here to keep watch on the storm and be concerned over the lives of those who will be or are being impacted by this.

I do have this bad habit of knowing what I mean and typing something different.

I took their posts as mocking people who were concerned, because only 'they' knew exactly what was going to happen. There are times when the smugness starts getting in the way of what is important.

Not it is down to 924 millibars. The eyewall replacement cycle is complete, Jamaica is out of the way, and it is now in the warmest waters in the Atlantic. Nothing is going to hold this monster back now.

Make that Number 28.

Expect a correction on the pressure. Dunno why they used an estimated pressure with the Hunters there.

there are several keys and legends, and the data is dynamically updated shortly after each set of info is made public.

I must be missing something. I've been over to your thread and to the source site GraphOilogy. Haven't seen a legend or date/time stamp on the graphics, and they appear to be from old data. That's why I inquired.

Apparently not on this thread. One post out of over 600.

If Dean turns north then my family is in the bullseye.

Thus NautiNurse has spoken with post number 666. Woe be unto those who fail to heed her advice.
