New Hampshire Voters Confront John McCain on Immigration [he was able to deflect]
Fox News ^ | 8/12/07 | AP

Frustration over illegal immigration followed Sen. John McCain on Sunday as he finished up a three-day campaign trip to eastern New Hampshire.

At a VFW hall in Conway, a woman who had questioned McCain the night before in Wolfeboro confronted him again, pushing him to support making English the nation's official language.

"I'm terribly concerned there's real danger we're going to lose our country from within," said the woman, who refused to give her name. "Even if we make English the national language, what difference does it make if you can vote (in Spanish), if where everywhere you go, the hospitals are obliged to provide interpreters? We need one language."

McCain said he believes more must be done to require immigrants to learn English, but matched her suspicions with some of his trademark straight talk.

"I'd also like to tell you that in my state of Arizona, we like the Hispanic heritage. We like the food. We like the music. We like to have Hispanic influence on our state and we are enriched by it," he said, reminding her that similar fears greeted waves of Irish, Polish and other immigrants in generations past. "I understand your concern that our traditions and our culture and background are being overwhelmed by another culture, but I believe we're stronger than that."

The "question" she asked was little more than a rant, and was thus ineffective. If she had pointed out lies/misleading statements/flaws in his previous statements or actions and then publicized his response that would have actually been effective. You have to anticipate the response and change the question accordingly.

“reminding her that similar fears greeted waves of Irish, Polish and other immigrants in generations past”

They didn’t come here illegally, 20 million strong, with the intention of turning America into Belfast, Krakow, or Naples. They came here legally, in smaller numbers, to become AMERICANS!

It’s becoming ever more clear why McClame graduated at the bottom of his Naval Academy class.

More of McCain's B/S. Those Irish, Polish and other immigrants in generations past were, in George Will's neat phrase, "psychologically guillotined" and had to adapt - and adopt. It is a whole 'nother story when the Mother Country is right next door, willing and able to reinforce each wave, aided and abetted by Corporate America and Open Border politicians.

Not to “trash” America, or to “reconquista” but to become

a part of America!

Comparing LEGAL immigrants to low class “reconquistas”

is an evil comparison! We in Arizona are done with Kyl, and

McCain, period!

'Twas an awesomely awesome deflection of the illegal immigration issue. His Irish/Polish talking point is irrelevant. I am sure McShame still has fond ties to his amnesty support, no matter how much he may appear to pander to get conservative votes...

When it Compliments not tries to supplant America.

America is the meal that McCain should be speaking of.

The meal is best when treated like the spices and seasonings from around the world to enhance the flavor and uniqueness of the meal; TOO much and the meal is ruined.

McCain is his RINO self again.

Stick a fork in him, he’s done.

This is the e-mail (which I doubt a human will read) I sent to Senator McCain’s office:

``I’d also like to tell you that in my state of Arizona, we like the Hispanic heritage. We like the food. We like the music. We like to have Hispanic influence on our state and we are enriched by it,’’ he said, reminding her that similar fears greeted waves of Irish, Polish and other immigrants in generations past. ``I understand your concern that our traditions and our culture and background are being overwhelmed by another culture, but I believe we’re stronger than that.’’

You are not being overwhelmed because you are a rich powerful Senator living with federally provided security. Illegal aliens don’t mess with you.

The rest of us are losing jobs, quality of life, our vote, and our citizenship to illegal aliens who hate Americans.

You are kidding yourself and killing the rest of us with your stubborn denial.

I used to watch the UFC fights until one of the contestants,Ortiz I believe, came out carrying an American flag with a Mexican flag pasted on the other side.I believe that is not only repulsive but may also be illegal. No more UFC in our house.

Yeah, we love the Mexican culture, or at least we used to when our Mexicans were 99% legal and spoke english (even with a charming accent). Phoenix and all of Arizona for that matter has always had a large population of Americans of Mexican descent.

McCain's problem is he has no idea what is happening here. He hasn't seen the billboards in spanish, he hasn't driven down the streets and seen the disposable diapers tossed out onto the streets, or the other litter, he hasn't seen the stores become filthy and unkempt, he hasn't watched old line neighborhoods being destroyed. He hasn't sat in traffic and watched cars turning left in a no left turn zone because they don't believe the laws apply to them.

BTW, most Americans of Mexican descent hate what is happening as much as the rest of us do. They left Mexico behind. They don't vote in Mexican elections, they don't speak spanish outside of their homes (some don't speak it at all), and they are proud of America.

The illegals lost all credibility about wanting to be Americans when they fell out into the streets in California carrying those Mexican flags and chanting to take California back.

I don't know. Who isvoting in the Arizona state primaries, anyway?

OTOH, we here in Florida can't get rid of trash like Nelson, but at least he doesn't pretend to be a Republican like McCain does, and the pubs here don't vote for him in the primaries.

I assume that TONS in the GOP voter base in Arizona must love John. - Whats up?
