Don’t you love paying the government to lie to you? For the life of me, I can’t figure why there aren’t a lot more libertarians.

Accuweather has been complaining about this very problem for a couple of years that I'm aware. I mean, for cryin' out loud: I'm no meterologist, but it would seem that access to RELIABLE data of the most basic sort is vital for making climate models, validating forecasts, making projections of all kinds, etc. But if you can't rely on the info - or can't even get it in the first place - then you're hosed.
Oh, and since urban sprawl around the country means that weather stations are warming up, then duh, it kinda artificially supports the global warming crowd.

When I was actually working in meteorological research 40 years ago there were about 200 weather stations worldwide plus Tiros, but if you wanted weather data from a hundred years earlier there wasn’t much of scientific interest. Thin data: could be anything.

The funny thing is the media complains that the global warming skeptics get too much publicity. Let’s forget that 99.99% of articles in the MSM are rabidly pro-global warming and never admit there is any doubt in the theory. These lying SOB’s have no shame on the lies they tell. These lying SOB’s really piss me off.

http://www.norcalblogs.com/watts/weather_stations/
One of the many images from the website - I looked carefully at each image and my blood is still boiling!
Compare with the installations in Australia, for example:
"Regular inspections by trained specialists will ensure that these stations are maintained to high standards. Detailed reports of any changes to the site and its surroundings will be made and procedures adopted to ensure that the quality of the records are not compromised. "
There's an interactive map on the website that shows EVERY Australian location:
And there's not an airconditioner, a tarmac, a tennis court, tall buildings or a sewage plant in sight!
