regarding the incident in Progresso - I’m truly shaking my head. I had no idea that was going on. Before we build a wall - we need to make sure that doesn’t happen anymore.

Yes, I find the Progresso incident VERY troubling, and wife and I still talk about it (it happened a year ago). My sense - and I'm not looking to libel anyone - is that the border guard, who spoke Spanish, got paid off by yet another guy, immediately following the "father and son." The same guard escorted him into a holding area (replaced by a new guard)- right after "father and son" walked off. The whole time the detainee (another Mexican, who kinda looked like Baretta in his younger days) had a smile on his face as big as his wide-brimmmed TX hat. Enjoyed the walk into the holding area. Of course, all of this may be my warped interpretation of events. But I think about it constantly, and, myself, I have trouble coming up with benign accountings. The kicker for me, after all these months, is that the kid NEVER SPOKE A WORD in any language to anyone - not to “dad,” not the the guard, not to anyone else. A wall, in the absence of correcting this sort of stuff, is as unworthwhile as it gets. And everyone at the border knows this full well, including those of us (in TX more generally) who support the wall 100%.
