Women tend to be attracted to those who are “good providers.” To be a good provider today takes a certain skill set that has to do with conplex abstract thinking and nothing to do with being a manly-man.
One need only to look at how society rewards jobs that entail physical labor as opposed to specialized skill sets to see where manly-men stand.
Honestly, women aren't attracted to such men at all - they just need them for economic stability. Unless the "provider" also knows how to push the "lover" buttons, she'll be spending some long afternoons with the pool boy. ;)
Women can't accurately define what they are attracted to - they tell researchers what they think they ought to want, and that is very different from what they actually respond to.
