LONDON: Nearly half of British Asians would only marry someone of their own race, according to an ICM-BBC survey on Monday.
A total of 44% said they would not consider inter-racial marriage almost five times higher than the figure for white Britons, of whom 9% said they would only marry within their race. But 53% of Britons with Asian origins said they would not mind a mixed-race marriage, compared to 87% for whites.
The survey probed 500 people aged under 34 living in UK who had roots in South Asia.
No. I married inter-racially. Have no problem with it at all. But anyone who’s thinking of marrying a muslim, but isn’t muslim themself, is nuts. And note, that isn’t a racial comment! In fact, ANY woman, muslim or not, who marries a muslim man is nuts.
Thanks for the studies. I knew they must have been out there. (a bit disingenous of my, sorry).
HIMSELF
All the BBC article would say is: “The survey, carried out by ICM, questioned 500 Asians and 235 white people aged between 16 and 34.” http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6933526.stm
Smart man and a lucky fella.
I don’t know about smart, but lucky, YEAH!
By making an issue of this, I almost sense they are judging people as racist for not considering an inter-racial marriage. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.
I agree no woman ought to marry an Islamist... a converted Muslim might be OK.
I’ve been having tea and biscuits.
And yet. After 34 years Sir Michael Caine still hasn't got your memo.
Britspeak:
Asian = South Asian,(mostly Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslims, Indian Sikhs and Hindus), Middle Eastern Muslims
Oriental = Far Eastern (Japanese, Chinese etc.)
Exactly right. In fact, I didn't realize what a quicksand trap I had fallen into until everyone started reacting negatively to my comment #8 above, as if I were a racist.
Race was the last thing on my mind; I was thinking that any woman who's unfamiliar with islamic hatred of women is going to be in for a huge shock if she marries a muslim, no matter what the groom's race or nationality. What better example to take than some ditzy white broad who's never read a newspaper? We've seen it time and again. But people jumped all over it, lol!
Ah criminy! I’ve got to learn how to use the italics and separate my comments at the same time. Serves me right for not previewing.
Asians are more racist than whites.
I believe that white people - in general - are the least racist people on earth. This study further proves that point.
All you need to do is go to Asia and see for yourself.
In Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and other countries there are large populations of Chinese and Indian as well as the respective indigenous populations, you almost never see them mix with any race except white.
You can see white people walking hand-in-hand with every race. You will never see a Chinese person with an Indian or Malay for example. Almost NEVER.
In China, they even consider races as class - and do so quite openly. The Chinese put white people on the top shelf, then the Chinese, then Indians and the others and at the very bottom are blacks.
In Malaysia the population is 50% Malay 30% Chinese and 20% Indian with a smattering of others (some white, Indonesian, etc.) The Chinese and Indians came over to work during the British colonial period, and still have not really mixed.
I’ve seen smart and I’ve seen lucky; lucky is better.
They didn't even bother to ask Brits of African or Chinese descent how they felt about interracial marriage.
It's not racist for me to comment on the same subject that the article itself addressed exclusively. He was talking only about that and so was I.
Context, my boy, context.
“Well, this article is really only about Brits marrying “South Asians,” who are mostly muslim, as we all know, because they’ve murdered everyone else. It wasn’t about Brits marrying Africans, or Brits marrying Chinese people, or Brits marrying American Indians, and in that sense it wasn’t about interracial marriage in general at all.

Aren’t most south Asians (India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) Hindus? I know that 80% of India’s 1.1 billion people are Hindu, that’s a lot of people.
Shouldn't be a bar to their marrying Europeans, though.
