“So we ask them to be in uniform or be with a date”

~~~~~~~~~
They are not banned, nor are they forced to have a date. They must EITHER be in uniform, or with a female companion.
I’d say the bar owner is very smart. He is trying to avoid bar fights. Marines in uniform are less likely to get into brawls and are less likely to be harassed by non military males. The uniform commands a certain level of respect from those not in uniform and the wearer is more likely to act more respectable.
I think it’s a good rule.
>>Could be true.....unless they were Ex-Navy Seals. Then they wouldn’t give a dam.<<
Navy Seals, good thing they are on our side.
"Marines dont start fights. They end them."
Damn!
Does that mean I was wrongfully prosecuted, convicted and tossed into the Brig for the balance of the weekend -- WRONGFULLY?
Everyone testified I threw the first punch -- unfortunately I had no witness who heard the punk hurl the first insult....
I want a retrial......
We disagree, I think it’s a stupid rule.
“Do you think this is a reasonable policy for a bar to adopt?”
Not only is it unreasnable, it’s delporable. There should be an organized boycott of the bar.
There is no law forbidding discrimination against Marines.......or ANY service member for that matter.
A private businessman should have the right to deny service to anyone he chooses.
However — his “policy” should be posted in clear unambiguous language OUTSIDE the business...
Then folks could decide if they wish to give THEIR business to the establishment....
NOTE:
It is NOT unheard of that Marines in bars occasionally attract “fighting words” comments, insults, physical assaults or challenges from some drunken big mouth wannabe....
Invariably, the asshole persists until given the demanded attention and treatment....
In my experience - the further North one went and the closer to either coast - the greater the incidents....
Seattle and Boston both had lots of folks in bars, begging to get their asses kicked.
The BEST most friendly towns during OUR war, were along the Southern Gulf coast or anywhere in Texas/Florida/Georgia/Mississippi/Alabama/Tennessee and the Carolinas....
That’s sad to hear. It makes no sense to behave that way towards young people who willingly risk the best years of their lives to protect the country. I’m not a veteran myself, but I have no use for those who act this way towards those who are.
Oh, yeah. I know the place. I lived about three blocks from there in my time in D.C. At the time it was a pickup joint for horny Congressional aides. Maybe they don't like the competition.
(Not really a fair comment, maybe, inasmuch as I haven't been in the place for two decades but given its location I doubt if it's changed a lot...)
I agree. Let ‘em replace some furniture, and their attitude will most likely change.
Not always. I was in the army long ago, and we ended one with the marines. Another time, I recruited four marines to assist with a bunch of longhairs at a lounge in Virginia. When the civilians saw the army and marines allied the fight died aborning. LOL.
I wonder if this bar had a “no blacks” or “no gays” policy, would that be the last word?
The place is a politician’s hangout, mostly dems.
let me get this straight... Marines, alcohol, no women..... might as well fight.... .
gee, I wish they'd have had this policy back in the day..... I might have saved an ear drum and some pay.
Just don't go there.
Go down to Pat Troy’s Irish Pub in Alexandria, you’ll get a better welcome and better clientele.
Controversies
• Kennedy has acknowledged being treated for cocaine use during his teenage years[2] and sought treatment for an OxyContin addiction in 2006.[3]
• In 2000, Kennedy was accused of pushing a security guard at LAX.  City prosecutors ultimately decided not to bring criminal charges against him and he paid an undisclosed civil settlement to the alleged victim almost two years later.[4]
• In 2000, Atlantic Navigation Company of Mystic, CT, claimed that a boat they rented to Kennedy was found abandoned off Martha’s Vineyard and required $28,000 to repair.[5]
• In 2000, the Coast Guard was dispatched to Kennedy’s yacht after he and his date became embroiled in an argument on his yacht off Martha’s Vineyard.[6]
• In 2003, drew fire from his critics when he said that “I have never worked a fucking day in my life.”[7]
On May 4, 2006, Kennedy crashed his 1997 Ford Mustang convertible into a barricade on Capitol Hill at 2:45AM.   He had been operating his vehicle with the lights off in the early morning darkness.   Officers at the scene said that Kennedy appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol[8] and was visibly staggering, but Kennedy claimed that he was merely disoriented from prescription medications Ambien and Phenergan.[9]  A woman who works at the nearby Hawk & Dove bar said that he had been drinking there.[10] A second report cites the capitol police have additional “witnesses” to Kennedy’s drinking at the Hawk & Dove before the crash.[11]
Kennedy also stated to officers that he was “late for a vote.” However, the last vote of the night had occurred almost six hours earlier.   The standard field sobriety test was not administered.   Kennedy was driven home by an officer.   On May 5, 2006, Kennedy admitted he has an addiction to prescription medication and announced he would be re-admitting himself to a drug rehabilitation facility at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota where he has sought treatment for prior addictions.[12] He has stated that he has no recollection of the car crash.   On June 5, 2006 Kennedy was released from drug rehab.[13]
On May 8, 2006, Kennedy was endorsed by the Rhode Island Democratic Party.[14]
I must live in a different dimension. In 1967 I walked the Haight Ashbury district in San Francisco in my Marine Sgt uniform, yes at night and and never had one person be disrespectful to me. Of course they were all completely zonked but I enjoyed the tour. Why did I do this? I keep asking myself that now at age 67. SF
Why of all place to party you picked the lamest bar in DC, the Hawk N Dove?
You could have walked in to a dozen great bars in Georgetown, DuPont Circle or Colombia Ave. areas and had a great time.
Even better try a local dive bar call The Rocket in Old Town, VA. Great food, nice dance floor and Marines are Welcome!
Seems eminently sensible to me. I mean, the alternative is to have your own infantry battalion, and even then it is an iffy proposition...
