Brogans is technically a name given to boots issued in the Civil War to infantrymen. When I enlisted the DI in basic used to scream in my face “how would you like my size eleven brogan in your butt”. That was the first time I had ever heard the term. He was a Master Chief about 5 feet 6 inches tall with panthers tattooed on each arm and hands the size of hams. I am six feet and I swear he was looking down at me. That was 1963 and I can still remember his face and smell his breath. I remember the lessons he taught me well.

I never knew the Air Force had something called a Master Chief, but hey, what do I know? I was merely in Army aviation. The grunts like me are always the last to learn.
