I heard Rush mention there were some talk radio shows that had to pay stations to air their program. He didn’t mention whose shows that could be, of course. Was BOR one of them?

Well, let's hear what writer Eric Boehlert had to say about it in Salon back in May 2002:

"Fox News TV talker Bill O'Reilly probably shouldn't have expected a friendly reception from his rough and unruly new colleagues on the conservative AM dial last week when he launched his own nationally syndicated radio program. But he surely didn't expect to get ambushed so quickly...

...On the eve of his premiere, Internet troublemaker (and AM radio host) Matt Drudge, reporting with his typically over-the-top banner headlines, charged that the radio syndicate Westwood One had to pay six-figure sums to get some major market stations to air O'Reilly's two-hour talk program. Drudge dubbed the practice "Talkola" (a sort of pay-for-say system), with the clear implication being that "The Radio Factor With Bill O'Reilly" wasn't good enough to get picked up, so Westwood One had to pay stations, including WOR in New York...

...Westwood One's CEO Joel Hollander denied Drudge's charge while, at first, O'Reilly expressed "minor annoyance" over the controversy.

[RUH ROH!!! What's THIS BOR quote coming up here eh? - mkj]

But O'Reilly soon appeared on Don Imus' morning talk show, deadpanning,

"I just want to tell everybody that Matt Drudge is smoking crack -- right now, in South Miami Beach on Washington Avenue ... And the authorities should know it."
O'Reilly added, "There is no other cure than to kill Matt Drudge."

WELL, WELL, WELL!!!

Looks like Bill O'Reilly was calling for the assassination of Matt Drudge!

"Isn't that special?"

O'Reilly? THY NAME IS UTTER HYPOCRISY

"Returning fire on his own syndicated show, which airs Sunday nights, Drudge ridiculed O'Reilly's brand of "pompous populism" and labeled the talker a "complete fraud."

Matt Drudge nails BOR for what he was, what he is, and what he will always be.

MKJ, at your service folks. Enjoy your day.

Good job remembering O’Reilly’s Drudge line.

He should answer it.

Why, thank you for the dose of enlightenment MKJ. It appears Mr. Bill O’Reilly has been caught with his pants down.

I could tell by looking at his face the other night he was fudging it. His face had the look of deceit.

To think BOR actually thought he could cut into a Rush audience! Laughable at best.

Worse yet, to give that analogous context, CBS(radio) must be labeled a “hate network” for allowing that to go out over the airwaves. MSNBC as well, if they were televising that show at that time. That would be like labeling FR a “hate site”.

It’s even more indicative of those networks being “hate networks” than the accusation against FR because O’Reilly was invited on to display his “hate speech”. A more analogous example would be some idiot barging his way in front of a TV camera and holding up a “Kill Drudge” sign and labeling the TV network by that sign.
