Wishing someone dead is tasteless.
No link for the "I hate Blacks" comment.
Gee, The Factor got only one of three and that's all it takes to make a "hate site"? I've heard worse on The Factor. I guess The Factor is a hate program.
I like both Free Republic and O'Reilly, I guess I'm just an across the board hater. ;^)
This is really pathetic of O'Reilly. I think he felt he had to do it, but the level of research for this assault is ridiculous.
No link for the "I hate Blacks" comment. As I posted elsewhere, one POSSIBLE "I Hate Blacks" article, as well as other -- more recent -- occurrences of that disgusting phrase...
...can be found through a Google "site search" for "I hate blacks" -- as posted on Free Republic HERE:In EVERY instance, that phrase was either attacked as foolish and/or inflammatory -- or DELETED.www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=site%3Awww.freerepublic.com+%22%2BI+hate+blacks%22
Note that this search is NOT exhaustive, and also that the results found change OFTEN.
I’m sure O’Reilly will come out with a retraction and apology, tonight. :^)
I'd say 0 for 3. An Internet joke about a fictional character being shot (there is no President Hillary Clinton) is not a wish for an assassination.
“Wishing someone dead is tasteless”.....
What about Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot? I wish they had died before coming to power. Jefferson often said that idiots should be encouraged to speak. That way we know who they are.
Yes it is.
But talk of banning that poster is also overkill.
The entire quote set up a future where the dreams of liberals were coming true. (Well, except for the guns part)
It was a poster's attempt at absurdity, satire, and/or pot stirring....like we've never seen that on FR before!
I think the current discussion (which I am sure EQ A B is following) should be adequate to mark the line between 'tasteless' and taboo.
That said; I'd also restore the 'dog in the manger' post, it can't hurt to send people to their reference books once in awhile.
(Did I mention that BO'R is a jerk?)
I’ve heard “dogs in a manger” before. Lots of times actually. And I’m not a high brow literary type. I never knew what it meant though, till now. I kinda thought it meant “party pooper”.
I think the post about a stray bullet was meant as a farce, not a wish. It was meant as a joke to make fun of the fools going around wishing for bush’s assassination. At least that’s how I thought of it.
