1 less gun for grandkids to worry about

Sheesh...I just did read the original article up at the top. People such as those who state that they'd rather remain unarmed are a cowardly bunch of boobs and deserve to be preyed upon by people who will do unspeakable acts to them and enjoy themselves while doing it.

As for kids and weapons....if adults gave kids some credit and weren't of such high opinions of themselves, they'd train the kids properly and never have a problem after that. The problem is that most adults simply won't do this. I hate to break this to the rest of the planet, but there's a REASON why kids were recruited as soldiers in African nations in recent hostilities. Kids are FAST, mentally and physically! Mine were all running the CQB range at the house by the time they were 10 and NOBODY could out run-n-gun them! They move fast, shoot fast, reload fast, and think fast! Yes it's true though, that untrained, they are a danger to themselves and potentially others around them. But this can be said of people in general, NOT just children!

What an aggravating article. The Charlotte Observer is known for its leftward leaning. I'll forward the URL to the kids at home. They'll laugh and hoot and hollar and make jokes about the Jehova's Witnesses that had a close call with them one day while me and Sweetie were out.

I'm not sure which is more offensive...a coward, or a predator. I think the coward is more offensive because nowadays, he is willing to vote to disarm me as well as him because of his irrational and unfounded fear.

As for stats and such...the last time I checked, police were statistically some of the most dangerous people on the planet with firearms. I can recall in the news where twice in the past six months there were deaths on SRTs where team members were fatally shot ("friendly" fire) during high stress entries!....and these are trained professionals?

The Charlotte Observer is not only F.U.D, but pure unmitigated bullshit as well....not worth wiping my backside with after a meal of good ole N.C. BBQ!

If is was a model 1911 .45, it probably wasn’t cocked and the child who was squeezing the trigger didn’t know how to deactivate the safeties.

If it was a 1911, the grip safety was off when the kid put her hands on the grips. The thumb safety would be off if the gun wasn't cocked. So if it was a 1911, the kid was saved either by the gun not being cocked or the thumb safety was on. Good thing the pistol wasn't a Glock.

And from your link, it looks like 121 unintentional firearm deaths in 2004 in the U.S. (who knows whether it was a grandfather’s cabinet situation in all these cases). With the author’s statistic of “about 200” killed in self defense (and undoubtedly many times more where the gun saved a life when the intruder fled), the actual data doesn’t make her case.

But of course, she wasn’t out to find the real truth, she was out to advocate against gun ownership regardless of the facts.
