Sir, you need to open your eyes a little wider and see that a man being an evangelist does not necessarily mean that he identifies with the this generation’s over-generalized, apostatized “evangelical” movement. “Evangelist” is biblical term. It means that my ministry directly involves preaching the Gospel of the Grace of God (Acts 20:24) to the unconverted. “Evangelical” is not a biblical term.

“Evangelical” is a term that goes all the way back to the mid 19th century. Most American church members today would consider the most worldly of those dear saints extreme nut cases. Their preachers preached hard against sin and the world and the devil. They preached Hell H O T and Heaven sweet.

Prior to WWII virtually ALL “evangelical” preachers preached from exactly the same Bible. Virtually all of their people were reading and memorizing and loving the exact same Bible. All Bible colleges and seminaries were teaching the same Bible.

Most people who accept the description “evangelical” today, however, would have been considered ultra-liberal, apostate and worldly by those who were termed “evangelical” prior to WWII.

So, WHAT is an “evangelical,” and how does it apply to me? I am a Bible-believing Christian evangelist
