RICHMOND, Va. -- Crowds -- including people in dog suits and protesters -- are already starting to gather outside the Federal Courthouse in Virginia.
They are there for the bond and arraignment hearing for Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick, who faces dog fighting charges.
Protesters are on one side of the street and spectators are already lining up to go inside. Just like on the football field, Vick has his supporters and detractors out there.
Vick is sick. Vick is sick and not in a cool way, said one protester.

Call Nike and let them know how you feel about Vick. Sponsors need to start being smarter about exactly who they employ.

Some human beings are lower than animals.
And yes, I stand by that statement.
We’re talking about people who steel other people pets and let these dogs tear them to shreds. If you get caught hunting without a license enough times you’ll go to jail. If you keep doing it you’ll go to prison and you haven’t killed anything. That’s how it works. This is a nasty sport filled with nasty people.
If you read the Bible, we were made in the image of God and he has granted us dominion over all animals on earth.
That is not entirely accurate. Any bonus money he has been paid over the contract is prorated over the entire length of the contract - if you cut a player then all of the previously paid bonus money immediately counts against the salary cap.
Cutting Vick would have huge salary cap implications for the Falcons.
Does dominion means it’s acceptable to torture, electrocute, hang and mutilate dogs?
What do you think about people who own bug zappers?
Why not be non-reactionary and waiting until all of this plays out? You sound like the 88 Duke professors that hung the lacrosse players out to dry.
Why not just wait for the trial?
I dropped him to last on my Fantasy football draft order.
Run Vick Run!
As we've previously explained, a post-June 1 release of Vick would trigger a cap charge of $7.57 million in 2007 and $14.68 million in 2008. But by avoiding Vick's base salary of $6 million in 2007, the net effect of dumping him would be an extra cap hit of $1.57 million this year. Likewise, because the team wouldn't be on the hook for his $7.5 million base salary to be paid in 2008, the net difference is $7.18 million.
The cap hit does not represent any new money that the Falcons will be required to pay. Instead, it is the result of past bonus money being accelerated into the salary cap. In fact, because the Falcons already are carrying in 2007 a $7.57 million cap charge for the portion of Vick's $37 million in signing bonuses that applies to the current league year, the actual net result of cutting him would be additional cap room of $6 million, since the $7.57 million is on the books regardless of whether he's on the team or not.
With that said, we believe that a decision to release Vick is unlikely to come until after he commits a default, and after the team initiates an effort to recover bonus money previously paid to him. By our calculations, Vick is potentially on the hook for more than $28 million if he misses Thursday's training camp practice without written consent of the team to attend his arraignment. Likewise, the repayment obligation will be triggered if he is suspended by the team or the league.
By cutting him before he is in default, the Falcons would lose their ability to pursue the bonus money. Also, by cutting him after he is in default but before they secure a ruling that the money is owed, it's possible that the Falcons will have waived their claims.
I think the courts should penalize him up to 2 million dollars and 2,000 hours of community service.
But this is not worth jail time no matter how abhorrent this is because this deals with animals, not people or even property.
Consider this. The dogfighting scourge encourages many, many people who shouldn't own a stuffed dog, to keep pit bulls. These are the dogs we hear about in the press, when they maim or kill innocent people.
If the public truly wants to do something to alleviate the problem society has with killer dogs, we must come down as hard as possible on those who are found guilty of this felony.
I have heard the term "sick" used by a person who was praising the motorcycles that the Tuttels at Orange County Choppers had made. Then the Tuttels picked up on the word and they use it to mean cool.
Who is supporting vicious vick? I read that only three reprobates showed up to support the herpes infested dog torturer.
Last I heard, Louie was very ill, and I’m surprised he hasn’t died yet. Come to think of it, maybe he already has, and his followers have had him stuffed, motorized, and put on wheels for public appearances. Pretty much what they’ll do with Castro, too.
As for Michael Vick, I don’t even consider him human.
Today on ESPN they said that if the Falcons suspend him, they won’t have to pay him.
Thanks so much for this info! I’ve been wanting a way to vent my anger at Nike for even considering having Vick’s merchandise in stores.
