He’ll believe in God the moment after he dies.

Hitchens and Dawkins and the rest all basically come down to “All the smart people are atheists, so there.”

There are plenty around here that admire Hitchens for his writings on the War on Terror. I am one. Just remember that he is every bit as ignorant and dense on religion as he is on economics. His one redeeming quality is that he knows that the Islamists would slit his throat. Pity that more of the Left don’t see it so clearly.

And the differences that do exist are understandable and scarcely suggest that the portrait of Jesus that emerges from the Gospels is unreliable.

Christopher Hitchens denies that Jesus Christ ever existed. He considers Him to be a complete fabrication and said this on Michael Medved's radio program. Mr. Hitchens said that there is much more evidence for the existence of Mohammed (but made no "equal" claims about the lack of possiblity that Mohammed rode to the heavens on a horse). Odd that he directs his venom primarily at one faith, especially when another is actively murdering in a holy war that goes on around the world.

Hitchens pines for a society that removes the heart of it’s populace, then still expects the heart to function.

Yet another neo Marxist, too bad really, even his one good character trait, rejection of Islamofascism, is mollified under the rubric of “There early conquests seemed driven by God”?

Somewhere, Shakespeare’s witches are cackling in with “What fools these mortals be”

Hitchens most certainly would not volunteer to take the place of another man doomed to die.

He will have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, to his doom.

In the meantime he wants everybody to think there's nothing going on once you're dead.

“Mr. Hitchens said that there is much more evidence for the existence of Mohammed.”

Mohammed is easy to find, he’s still in his tomb in the city of Medina.

In July 1941, a political prisoner escaped from Auschwitz. As a punishment, ten others were chosen by the Nazis to be killed in a starvation bunker.

The evil Nazis proudly exterminated people by the inhuman and ghastly practice of withholding food and water until death occurred.............the Demonrats proudly exterminated Terry Schiavo by the inhuman and ghastly practice of withholding food and water until death occurred........

Terry was not brain-dead, not on a respirator, could swallow water and soft foods, could stay in a chair for extended periods without being strapped in, and could recognize people and display emotions...............

Excellent article. I put the mag it came from in my favorites.

One comment in the article caught my eye: “The twenty fifth chapter of Matthew’s Gospel is a more effective spur to charity than is Kant’s categorical imperative, much less a belief that human life is nothing more than a biological accident. Indeed, although Hitchens does not admit it, widespread charity was unknown in the classical world.”

I was struck a year or so ago when I learned that the Hindu belief in Karma did not lead to charity — it is the reverse. They feel that they interfere with that person’s Karma if they give to them; “it is their karma, I must not interfere” sort of reasoning. They must work out their own Karma. Just an interesting little tidbit regarding how easy it is to put your own cultures assumptions into play when dealing with another culture.

Hitchens isn’t really worse than Kant in many respects. He’s just Kant without the vocabulary.

I wouldn’t ordinarily read a book like this, but I just might in this case because it sounds like it would be good for more than a few laughs. Kind of an ink and paper banana peel.

condoms are not a “necessary” condition for preventing the transmission of AIDS, or else celibates would all be infected.

The author leaves out sexually active but monogamous couples, heterosexual or homosexual. They also will not contract the disease, short of some wild mischance involving a blood transfusion or something similar.

Despite Hitch being a major idiot in some respects, notably with regard to anything involving religion, he has been one of our most staunch allies in the struggle against militant Islamists. I'll take him over a lot of other people, given that. He can believe anything he wants as long as he fights on my side.
