If the child gets the messages that are in the Potter books, then I have no problem. They don't teach witchcraft. The teach friendship, loyalty, courage, thinking for yourself, perseverance, sacrifice and that good must triumph over evil. Your stuck on magic, rather than the message. The books are very clear that you must have a "magical" family tree to be a witch or wizard. But in the end, it is all pretend. I played "Jeannie" and "Samantha" as a kid, went to church, and turned out pretty well according to folks I know.

You are correct, they do not teach the mechanics of witchcraft. What they do do for some kids is whet their appetite to learn the mechanics of spells and potions and necromancy and get involved in witchcraft.
