I have people on this thread telling me that there is no draft and that illegals cannot serve.

Amnesty means no more “illegals” and the topic was drafting men and women.

Neither were situations TODAY so telling me how life is today doesn’t mean a hill of beans.

I’m the one perplexed as to why people are telling me how “it is” when the thread is about people on a stage telling us “how it will be”. I had a question they should be made to address.

If we need to have a military “that reflects America”, then the draft should be inclusive of our proposed “new citizens (who would be legal residents).

It is called reality. We can speculate all we want on what might happen, but the only thing that matters is what the situation is today vis a vis the draft and amnesty.

The people on the stage are panderers and liars. They are politicians telling people what they want to hear. Whether they can translate that into reality is an entirely different question. In most cases, they can't. There is no way that we will be out of Iraq prior to November 2008. Politics aside, it is virtually logistically impossible.

If we need to have a military “that reflects America”, then the draft should be inclusive of our proposed “new citizens (who would be legal residents).

Almost no Dem Presidential candidate supports bringing back the draft. When Charlie Rangel put it before the House for a vote, it was defeated roundly. By a 402-2 vote, the House shot down HR 163, otherwise known as the Universal National Service Act of 2003. And even Rangel voted against it!!!! That's reality. And amnesty was also voted down in 2006 and 2007. So why waste energy debating how many angels can fit on the head of a pin?
