Rep. Tom Tancredo today sent a letter to Attorney General Gonzales asking him to consider charging Mahamu Kanneh with federal civil rights violations, who is a Liberian immigrant who was accused of repeatedly raping a 7-year old girl over the course of a year and released after a Maryland court claimed to having difficulty finding a suitable interpreter. "It is troubling that this state judge has taken the unprecedented unprecedented step of converting the supposed inability of a suspect to speak English into what is essentially a license to engage in criminal activity," said Tancredo. "Especially when one considers that the suspect had attended public high school and community college in the U.S., and even had the audacity to conduct several interviews with the media in English following the ruling." Tancredo noted that in the past, when state judicial authorities have demonstrated this kind of gross incompetence or unwillingness to hold individuals accountable for their crimes, the federal government has used civil rights laws as a way to charge, detain, and convict individuals. Tancredo concluded, "This ruling sends a dangerous message to sexual predators and other potential criminals that all they must do in order commit crimes with impunity is claim that they speak a little-known language as their native tongue."

Isn’t Liberia an English-speaking country founded by former slaves from America? Or am I thinking of another country?
“Another instance of judicial insanity”
Where else but in The Peoples Republic of Montgomery County Maryland. My back yard. The same polititicians who worked/lied their way into STATE government now, came from, guess.......
Montgomery County! What a state!
I’m sure Alberto will jump right it.... Pronto.... NOT!
I am in no way defending the rapist, but this is a state mater.
Yes, just as I thought, the official language of Liberia is English.
So why the interpreter?
Sorry, the AG has no time for this kind of nonsense, he’s got his eye on some more Border Patrol agents that have been harassing Mexican drug smugglers and upsetting the cartel.
Supposedly this guy’s native tongue is some obscure language spoken by only 100,000 people. It’s call vai or voi or vei or something like that. :)
It seems to be irrelevant that he graduated from a US high school and a US college and speaks fluent English. Go figure.
I have to agree, but too many like to blur the intent of the Framers when it’s expedient to do so.
Tancredo wouldn’t be running for some office would he?
This dirtbag speaks English just fine. He went to high school and college here in the United States. This is nothing more than a cheap ploy by his bottom-feeding, scumbag lawyer.
English is the official language of Liberia.
Anybody got the lawyer’s name and address?
Right; skip the recall part.
Can you scream Asylum Fraud???
How can someone get granted refugee status here if they are already firmly resettled in another country, Guyana???
The fraud in asylee/refugee program is revolting.
I wish US citizens would become more aware of this fraud and demand its end.
We should also change the law, all refugees should be subject to deportation. If they get “harmed” in their country of birth, oh well, too bad. No US Citizen or resident should be harmed in order to protect a foreigner.
Do you know how many thousands of criminals don’t get deported because they are from refugee hellholes?
It’s a disgrace.
I don’t know his name, but I’m sure the scumbag will proudly and brazenly get his face in front of a camera somewhere and try and defend his disgraceful actions.
Liberals regardless of party affilition should be charged as conspirators.
Correctamundo... And, the official language there is... English...
the infowarrior
Alberto is far too busy protecting the civil rights of millions of illegal aliens to worry about a 7 year old American kid.
mark for later
