MCMINNVILLE, Ore., July 22 (UPI) -- Two 13-year-old Oregon boys are facing serious sex charges for allegedly slapping female classmates' bottoms as a form of horseplay.
Police arrested Cory Mashburn and Ryan Cornelison of McMinnville and if convicted could be permanently marked as sex offenders, The Portland Oregonian said Sunday. The teens also could spend as long as 10 years in juvenile detention if found guilty.
While the boys' parents have opposed such a harsh penalty, McMinnville District Aattorney Bradley Berry said such youthful acts could have longstanding consequences for the alleged victims.
"These cases are devastating to children," he said. "They are life-altering cases."
Interviews with the boys' fellow students found other teens were engaging in similar behavior at the time and two of the female victims have since recanted their statements.
The Oregonian said the boys are due in court on Aug. 20 to answer to all charges stemming from the February event.
lol...suggesting a trip to the Principal’s office is “almost as bad” as believing they should be tossed in the slam for ten years? Nice thinking there, boy. With that (lack of) brain horsepower I suspect your time on FR will be short.
you’re a member of the PC police I’m not.
Especially since the girls were having as much fun as the boys.
Any punishment is ridiculous.
And for the record I am not a boy PC police.
I had fun as a kid with these things.
Only a moron would see this as fit for anything besides being told not to do it.
I apologize I didn’t read the whole thing with the unproven allegations of the other things they did.
If that is true yes punishment is deserved but only a Nazi would think they should be charged with sex crimes.
Prescisely. .....by the Principal. My original "slap on the ass" comment (in regard to the boys' "punishment") was figurative, not literal. But even so your contention that a small punishment dealt out by the Principal is "almost as bad" as throwing them in jail for a decade is idiotic in the extreme. ...indicative of an emotional wreck.
I merely stated a fact in reply to a post, that some of us do remember similar humiliations. I didn’t say that it was dwelt upon nor did I imply that these disrespectful boys should be brought up on charges. The parents and the schools should have handled this so that the entire student population was on notice about what is expected of them in their treatment of others.
The difference between you and me, cubswinby100, is that I’m sorry that you were mistreated in school and that I don’t characterize you’re mentioning it as whining. Congratulations on surviving what can be a difficult time for many.
Well I’m not convinced they shouldn’t be charged with sex crimes but I’ll allow that for their tender age perhaps some leeway should be granted.
In fact, I saw a clip yesterday on Fox about this case. The prosecutors are dropping SOME of the charges (I have no idea how MANY charges there are) but they’re not dropping the sex crime charge.
Now go with me here....sex criminals were once young men. At some point they became adult males and either went on to peeping toms, rape, murder...who knows? But once upon a time they were adolescents.
Now if these boys don’t have all the markings of a future sex criminal then there is no such thing. Which is NOT to say, just yet, that they should be charged for a sex crime and forced to have their name put on some list for the rest of their lives. I’m understanding this although everyone’s first impulse upon entering this thread, including YOURS, is to attack ME! That says something about conservatives as I see it. Sadly.
I’m sitting back and waiting because my gut tells me that if those prosecutors aren’t backing down on the sex crime charges than they’ve got something pretty damn incriminating on those boys.
These creeps, adolescents though they may be, dry-humped girls as they innocently walked to their class. They grabbed their breasts and swatted their asses. They behaved horrifically and like I said on an earlier post, I’m betting some of their behavior got caught on videotape.
I think there’s at least a better than even possibility, based on nothing more than my own common sense hunch, that these two losers WILL become adult male sex offenders.
I don’t have the answers however, and frankly we only know part of the story. I’m thinking those prosecutors are trying to wrangle some sort of deal that would have these boys put in counseling from now until eternity and have some sort of option that they CAN be put on a sex offenders list if they err again.
Of course these boys have fine defense attorneys who get on TV and lie, and they lie to the newspaper reporters and they fool everyone, including many fine Freepers on this thread.
So maybe I’m a Nazi, as the name-calling continues without letup. But those boys are bad, bad news.
I’m keeping an eye on this case as are many others. The defense lawyers notwithstanding, plenty of intelligent folk are concerned about these badly, VERY badly, behaving adolescents.
A 13 year old girl getting her butt slapped by a 13 year old boy is a “life altering” experience? This from an assclown who probably lets his 13 year old daughter run around looking like a whore, which seems to be the standard dress code these days. Unfrigging believable!
They’ve been arrested? Could go to juvie prison for 10 years? What in the HELL is going on there?
All those boys need is a few hours of extra chores to teach them that running around slapping females on the butt is not the behavior expected of a gentleman.
You need to get a grip.
Like to hear more. You all recognize as well as I that there is a spate of agenda-driven prosecutorial excess recently, to wit, the Marine’s courts martial and the Duke lacrosse team prosecution. The politization of the judicial process has to be confronted and ended.
If their life gets altered by a buttslap they have other issues that aren’t caused by these two boys...
I wish I had just a kernal of your insight.
Hmmm, just like Nifong had damning evidence against Seligman and company???? Prosecutors can never act in a politically motivated manner huh???? You are naive. Chances are they never thought they'd land in the middle of a PR s*!t storm on the O'Reilly factor, and now they are just trying to save face by coming at the boys with both barrels in hopes of not looking like idiots, which they already do.
And how magnanimous of you to concede that some leeway should be granted. I guess we can all put away the tar and feathers and cancel the castration surgery.
Thanks for the ping KenH. Good news. Still not over for them yet, but it looks like things are heading in the right direction.
Well, you don’t.
