You are very well right. But, just the same as I grew up, this was not the story I heard. So, the few books and articles and scholars never bothered to set this straight. You don't need a conspiracy theory to explain this.. just a complacency and a duplicity theory.

After Rwanda and Cambodia and as the Democrats contemplate allowing the slaughter of Iraqis by the million. Its our own humanity that is flawed.

Shame on you for saying there is nothing they could have done. Auschwitz ran almost to the last days of the war pumping out burnt offerings.

If someone gave a damn, they could have put it out of business along with its sister facilities. There is nothing they cared to do, it wasn't a priority.

We shouldn't say never again. We should say over and over again.

I'm going to tackle your points completely, but somewhat out of order.

Shame on you for saying there is nothing they could have done. Auschwitz ran almost to the last days of the war pumping out burnt offerings.

And that, my friend, is the essence of the problem. While Germany was under attack from all sides by millions of men, Hitler still diverted vast numbers of men and resources away from the war effort and towards killing the Jews. The hundreds of thousands of men involved in perpetrating the Holocaust could have been used with much effect on the Eastern and Western fronts. Instead, Hitler decided it was better to take them away from the front, lose the war and kill the Jews than win the war and let them live. What that should tell you is the pathological -- and fundamentally irrational -- obsession the Nazis had with carrying out the Holocaust. Even in the last days of the war, the first priority of the German state was in exterminating the Jews. It wasn't that Auschwitz was an oversight. Rather, there was nothing the Allies could have done to divert Nazi resources away from the killing of Jews when that was what they had resolved to do above all else. The only way to save the Jews was to defeat the Nazis as quickly as possible. And that's precisely what the Allies saw and did.

If someone gave a damn, they could have put it out of business along with its sister facilities.

That's absolutely not true. Not only did a lot of people "give a damn," but bombing Auschwitz was explicitly examined and rejected -- not just by the US Government but by the entire American Jewish community as well -- for thoroughly sound reasons (technical, political and strategic) that I would be more than happy to get into if you're interested.

So, the few books and articles and scholars never bothered to set this straight. You don't need a conspiracy theory to explain this.. just a complacency and a duplicity theory.

Complacency and duplicity? Those are absurd charges.

"Complacency" implies the Allies were apathetic about the crimes of the Nazis. That couldn't be further from the truth. The Allied war effort to defeat the Nazis was, if you recall, absolutely the greatest in the field of human history. That's a pretty far cry from complacency. Regarding the Holocaust, the Allies spent enormous resources -- more than a lot of people thought wise -- to free Jews. Again, no complacency.

And duplicity? That's saying that the Allies actually supported the Holocaust, a claim so completely unsupported any evidence that it seems not worth talking about.
