The turning point in the Battle of Britain, came after Berlin was airbombed for the first time.
Hitler was so angered by the bombing, that he switched from tactical bombing Britain to terror bombing. This had two negative effects for the Nazis. First, it strengthened British resolve, and second, stopping the bombing of military installations allowed the British military to regroup.
That is where the Battle of Britain was lost for the Germans.

More specifically, he switched from bombing the RAF’s fighter airfields and radar installations, to terror bombing of population centers.
Goering made a sppech before Berlin was bombed that if any bombs fell on Berlin, you could call him “Mayer” (IIRC), i.e., a Jewish name. After Germany began being bombed, many people jokingly referred to Goering as “Mayer” — very quietly, of course.
Just a few weeks ago I spoke to a lady who grew up in wartime Berlin — the stories she told were amazing! She said that they had a system of internal spying that was so effective that you dared not discuss things openly with family members. Several people were arrested in her apartment building.
The story that was put out among the public about the disappeared Jews was that they were being re-educated or something. Nobody asked questions out of fear.
It also helped that the fuel tank of the ME 109s only allowed about 10 minutes in the London area, allowing the RAF a free shot at the bombers when the 109s left.
