Bush: Americans will realize need for aliens
The Washington Times ^ | July 20, 2007 | Stephen Dinan

President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.

Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.

If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.

"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."

Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

Yes, we need aliens.

We need a couple battalions of Klingon warriors to turn loose on Al Qaeda. They'll end the WOT in about two weeks.

Another article to answer your question, “Where are we going to find law abiding people to pick the crops?”

(Of course they will have to be ‘law abiding’ while under the watch of an armed guard, won’t they?)

Time will tell if he is right.

“If you ate Food today, Thank a Mexican.”

I’ll thank an American Farmer.

Amen to that! Hell I'll thank my brother and SIL too. They have one helluva garden that we've been eating out of for sometime now.

GW Bush really thinks very little of the American people. For that matter of America itself. We can't exist or funtion without the invaders. Whoa is me! How did we EVER get by before?

Yes, stop them now, build the fence and then we can let in however many we need to mop the floors and pick strawberries after we screen them first. (Am I smarter than the President of the U.S. ?? I believe so.

BUsh continues to insult America and Americans. His statement is that we cannot run this country ourselves.

Oh... That kind of alien. No thanks, I'll pass.

(Though, if some dude named Sancho shows up at the border with a warp field generator tucked under his arm, I'm willing to make an exception!)

I think the president has a soft spot in his heart for the people of Mexico. Otherwise he would understand that this whole argument is not about immigration. There people trying to enter this country legally from all over the world. No one is saying we don’t want legal immigrants. What we don’t want is open borders.

I also understand that there will be some very unpleasant results to any attempt to get the illegals to return to their own countries. I can see a depressed housing market getting even worse, and with 20 million people going home, there is bound to be a depressed economy for the short term.

But what the president doesn’t seem to understand is that we are in the middle of a war on terror. Our enemies know that for whatever reason, we have no desire to protect our borders. They are exploiting this and they will continue to do so until we realize the importance of defending our country. Unfortunately, it may take another disaster on the order of 911 to wake our government.

This is what disturbs me so much about the president’s stand on the border. His job as Commander in Chief is to defend the United States from invasion. We are in the middle of a war which he has chosen to fight on one front, but he has left our border flank completely exposed. Now, people don’t believe the war is real because he doesn’t really seem serious about defending us.

Either his handlers have purposely explained the situation to him incorrectly or he himself has decided to paint this as pro-immigration versus anti-immigration. Whatever the situation, right now someone has decided to put business interests ahead of the defending our country and the war on terror. I think that is a mistake.

"If you ate Food today, Thank a Mexican."

How pathetic. How is your kool-aid today? If Bill Clinton were turning a blind eye to leaving our borders open, and praising the result, I'd be willing to guess you would be on here raising mortal hell like the rest of us.

We've always had food here before without "Mexicans". Why should we be thanking them now? They should go the hell back to THEIR country, and work crops for THEIR people. They can take their president back with them while they are at it. We can do just fine without them, like we managed to do for a couple of hundred years.

“That appears to be the case. What is their real agenda?”

I wish I knew.

I think it may just be easier to ignore the illegal actions and let them stay, but then what happens if the economy goes into recession and many more Americans need to find jobs and there aren’t any available to them?
