The Democrats' Entrenched and Immovable Antiwar Posture

The Democrats' long-entrenched position, partisan interests and ideological inclinations militate against them changing their mind on Iraq, regardless of the facts on the ground.

First, please consider honestly what the Democrats' reaction will be if in September, Gen. David Petraeus reports that our troop surge in Iraq is yielding unambiguously successful results against the enemy and in training Iraqi security forces?

Do you believe there is any realistic possibility Democrats will rejoice at the news, applaud the efforts of our troops and retreat from their demands that we begin immediate troop withdrawal? (Their reaction to the surge's success so far give us some clues, does it not?)

If I am correct that they will not -- and I would be most happy to be wrong -- why do you think that is?

The Dems keep saying they will end the war by leaving Iraq.

Retreating from the battlefield won’t end the war. It will worsen it!

If Petraeus reports good things are happening and thinks it is winnable, the Rats are going to slip and call him a liar or use words to that effect. The country`s reaction will make the 4th of July look dull.

That’s why their in a full court press to get out now.

They forced the President to set benchmarks. Now that he has, and the first 3 weeks of the troop surge seems to be having positive results, they are afraid that bush might actually make this work.

And since Petraeus has a reputation that is hard to discredit, leaving before September may be the only way the Dems have to damage Bush politically.

And we all know, it’s all about making Bush look bad.

It takes both sides to make peace, only one to start (or continue) a war. The arrogance of the west in thinking we can just unilaterally declare a war against a fanatic foe over is staggering.

Just about everyone admits that it was Clinton's premature pullout of Somalia that emboldened AQ into pulling 911. Pulling out of Iraq before the job is done will provoke and orgy of terrorism against the US, Europe, and Israel. It will also cause the situation in Afghanistan to spiral out of control very quickly as terrorist attentions shift there.

If we pull out it will be the biggest foreign policy mistake we have ever made. That will be obvious in very short order.

That’s what’s a mind blower. The young men and women of our nation are in harms way and all the Dem's care about is politics. It’s positively treasonous!

That’s why I think we are getting to the end of this Kabuki theater. If a withdrawal occurs Democrats would oversee a disaster of 250,000 plus dead in a civil war with Al Queda taking over the Iraq oil fields.

That just isn’t going to happen, even if Cindy Sheehan were president, because the consequences are huge.

So, in short, we won’t be leaving Iraq anytime soon. Almost time to call the Democrats bluff.

My thoughts as well — this is a repeat of 1972.

All these Democrats sound wackier than McGovern, and no one (including Democrats) has listened to him since then.

The 'surge' only started in June - and the LIbRats wanted a report in SEPT - that's not much time to execute and document all the 'benchmarks" they demanded...but OMG, it looks like they've already reached 8 of them. Panic!

They are panicked by the thought of success in Iraq. So they scrap the Sept. date and want to call game over NOW because, if things progress at this rate, and is ultimately successful...where does that leave them, their campaigns, their personal power, etc.

They are not just traitors, they are vile, despicable traitors...they are not selling out our troops and country for personal beliefs, but for personal power and sick, soul eating hatred.

I do believe they do business with the devil...

How can they do that? The Dems leading candidate has said she’d leave what? 70,000 troops in Iraq?...It would cost more to leave now, and come back if Hillary’s president...

Dems painted themselves into a corner on the anti-Bush/Iraq war thing?

I agree. I don't know if the GOP has time to pull it together for 2008 but the 'rats (and RINOs) are slitting their own throats in the long run.

Its going to be bad juju and quick if we cut and run from Iraq. It will be a great victory for Radical Islam but they will so over estimate their strength and our weakness that and go on an orgy of terrorism.

A year from now people will punch you in the face if you try the "religion of peace" shtick. Americans want to be safe and won't accept a bomb shelter existence.

The Dimmyraps are in a hurry to lose this war, because they cannot allow it to be won. Memo to Dimmycraps: There’s a word for trying to make you’re own country lose, and it isn’t patriotism.
