There are several stores I've been in recently that everyone has to show their receipts upon leaving the store.

Costco, Sams Club, Guitar Center...

Maybe they got caught shoplifting and that's why they're steamed.

Sam’s Club does it for everyone and always has. Even people who work for the Sam’s home office have to show their receipt.
