That the Founders thought the PERSONAL right of life and liberty was paramount was never the point of my post. In fact, I’d say it backs up my point: the Founders specifically detailed all rights of government not previously delineated to the Federal government to the states and the people.

The Constitution does not “give” the right of life to people nor does it give the Federal government leave to decide the limits on that right, specifically because the right to life is an unassailable right bestowed by the Creator.

The very reason we have a democratic republic of states is to protect life and liberty from the tyranny of an all-powerful, all deciding, central government.

Of course the Constitution doesn’t grant rights. But, it does describe the right to life quite explicitly, in the Preamble and the Fifth and the Fourteenth Amendments. The Republican platform since Reagan has pointed out this unarguable fact. Thompson thinks that platform is disposable.
