Fred might not be the most stalwart, but he’s who the rats fear the most. The grand object is winning the election, so as a rat infested WH does not become a bitter reality.

The fact that that seems to be the biggest selling point for Thompson speaks volumes about possible lackluster conservative credentials.

Maybe Thompson will prove in the campaign to be the best choice, but I'm not comfortable about the way mere speculation about electability is supposed to close a serious examination of the issues among all the candidates.

Richard Viguerie is one of the wise old men in Washington and he knows where a lot of bodies are buried.

Some people just don't know when to retire and go fishing. Those that do, are the true wise men.

Fred isn’t the only GOP candidate as of now.

Ya, I’m aware that if the GOP doesn’t put up a pro-lifer no one will, but if neither of the candidates are pro-life, I probably won’t be at the polls in November.

RIGHT HERE...

Fred is solid on pro-life

“No he isn’t. He wants states to be allowed to continue the killing of the innocent unborn.”

This isn’t even a reasonable mischaracterization. It’s an outright LIE!

Thompson is to the right of Bush

I really think you'd have a hard time objectively substantiating that assertion.

Every "electable" Republican I've ever seen run has been destructive to the conservative cause and with it the Republican Party: Nixon, Ford, and Bushes I & II, all of them. The only Republican President who has INCREASED public support for conservatism was billed as "unelectable": Ronald Reagan. Barry Goldwater was abandoned by his own party.

Thanks for the ping-

In my mind there is only one candidate that holds true conservative principles, has the experience to be a president in a time of war, and is a sure bet to build the damn fence- That person is Duncan Hunter.

The only other person who comes close is Tancredo (whom I would vote for).

Fred (for all his rampant popularity) does not do it for me- He smells of Hollywood and will only serve to split the conservative vote in the primary and thereby give the nod to Guliani.

I will not be voting for ANY candidate other than a dyed-in-the-wool conservative... the farther to the right the better.

That is not Guliani, Romney, McCain, or Thompson.

Talking to my peers I get the impression that I am not alone either. The Repubs better give the right wing someone to vote FOR or suffer the consequences.

"B.S. who’d you vote for in 2004? Perhaps that President who signed it into law?"

Nope.......I voted Constitution party in 2000 and 2004. Who'd you vote for? That cheerleader from Yale with the affected Texas accent?

So who are you, an old jilted girlfriend of Serpent Head?
LOL! I was going to ask that but she keeps hallucinating that I'm Mary because I asked about her tagline. I decided to let flea--ridden dogs lie.

"But to make your comment without researching Thompson's full position on the matter is irresponsible."

His position on the matter when he supported it, or now when he's courting Conservative support?

Thank you for the ping.

Viguerie is a crank who thinks anyone to the left of him is a traitor. He even attacked Pres. Reagan and the talks and treaties with Gorbachev.

That said, Thompson is not nearly as conservative as people think he is. He was instrumental in McCain-Feingold and his ACU is nowhere near as high as Sen. Brownback and Rep. Hunter.

This doesn’t mean he’ll be a bad President or is unelectable. But it does mean the the former Senator’s deification by conservatives is pretty silly.

Debunked? I thought Fred said he had no memory of it.

All the above, there are several threads on this.
Fred said he had no memory which makes sense considering that it was also shown:

I have never seen a differance between that attitude and what I read by DU supporters of sure losers like Dennis Kucinich or John Edwards If a candidate does not appeal to the CENTER he will lose.

Likewise, if he does not appeal to the right, and the right will not be placated...

What is up with the whole mhking thing anyway?? I do recall that someone either hacked or created a mirror account of our beloved mhking, and lately, some of the posts have been way over the top like the bogus accounts are still being used. Have we heard about this from the real mhking?

That’s just a lot of spin. The fact is he supported and voted for a bill which went against his sworn oath of office. I don’t vote for anyone who breaks their oath to Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

Fred Thompson plays a tough guy in the movies and on television, but in real life he is a marshmallow who would pose no threat to the Big Government Establishment that continues to dominate Washington.

A marshmallow that could stick-it to a New York, maxi-pad, liberal any day.[messy image, and I appologize]

Why isn't the senior senator from New York (Schumner) running instead of Hillary? Do FBI files run that deep?

Duncan who?

You mean that pork barrel spending guy in the house that’s ranked #411 out of 435 for congressional attendance?

You want that guy to be president? He doesn’t even bother showing up for the job he has now and you want to promote him?
