Although I agree with you that military service should not be a prerequisite for office, you are mistaken on the candidates who have military experience.

In addition to McCain, Hunter was in the army (and a Ranger at that!), and Ron Paul was in the Air Force as a flight surgeon.

Thanks for the ping. I like Fred because he can articulate and he seems to have some brains. No, he’s not perfect as a conservative. I don’t think even RR was perfect in that way.

That is the position of the Republican Party. Has been since Reagan.

The Republican Platform:

Promoting a Culture of Life

As a country, we must keep our pledge to the first guarantee of the Declaration of Independence. That is why we say the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and we endorse legislation to make it clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.

Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions. We oppose using public revenues for abortion and will not fund organizations which advocate it. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life.

Thanks. Reckon I oughta read this thing. I know who I am NOT supporting for the nomination - that would be Rudy and the crazy man plus the non-entities. Today, I would be voting Hunter.

I realize that I will most likely get the living crap kicked outta me for even POSTING this but, in the interests of providing another point-of-view on an emerging candidate, I feel honesty -- and prudence -- requires a close examination of voting patterns and records so, as in the Who song of years ago, "We Won't be Fooled Again."

I'm not about to go through all the 600 posts on this thread, but I say, "Thank you!"

No but it’s up to over 300 degrees inside this ^$@$& NOMEX suit.

Had NO idea this would start the firestorm it has.

As another poster remarked, if Thompson IS what he claims to be — and we all hope he is — it’s probably a good thing to clarify/debunk/refute/whatever the more significant points brought up in Viguirie’s piece BEFORE some David Gregory wiseacre reporter blindsides him in front of a bank of video cameras.

I suspect Fred or some of his folks lurk here from time to time.

It would be wise for them to get these matters behind them ASAP.

I couldn’t agree with that more. That statement of policy has nothing to do with reading the 14th the way you want it read. That statement calls for a Constitutional Amendment banning abortion, and for legislation, which wouldn’t be needed if abortion were already banned under the 14th Amendment to the Constitution as it now stands.

Well, the platform calls for the judicial branch and the legislative branch to adhere to their sworn duty to protect innocent persons in the womb. The only thing I’ve added is a demand that the Executive, who is in his person one entire co-equal branch, to do the same. Seems reasonable to me.

Congrats on the Emmy!

I like Duncan, but I could hold my nose and vote for Fred if I have to.

Another Paulite site doing dirt on Fred - look who they endorse. They endorse Paul, the guy who is a Libertarian and lambast Fred for not being conservative enough.

This smacks of the same folks who brought us the Fred Thompson forum that was just a facade for the Paulite shills.

Paul isn’t going to get the nod - get over it already.

OK, I get it now. I've read the thread. I posted something a few weeks ago saying that I actually want to hear Fred on the actual campaign trail say something that articulates his position before I give my time, money and support to him. I want to see him asked the same "tough", "trick" questions like "what do you think about _______ (fill in the blank)" that the other candidates are being asked.

My thoughts were taken as a slight to Fred. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am rooting for him. While Rudy McRomney doesn't excite anyone, it could be worse.

Our leading candidates for the nomination could be a woman who accomplished nothing in her Senatorial career and whose only claim to fame is being asleep in the Lincoln bedroom while her husband used an interns' private parts as a humidor; or a guy who was in the IL state Senate just 5 years ago. Oh wait....

I hope Fred is the real deal.

wheee, just as a change of pace, let me and everybody else hear why Fred is the man. Save us the usual vitriol and I'll spare mine. I didn't want you to miss this thread.

Even Harry Blackmun agreed, in the wording of Roe, that if the unborn are persons, they are to be accorded protection under the Fourteenth Amendment.

The only problem is that he, and many others, insensibly and arbitrarily decided that a baby isn’t a person. All science, all common sense, dictates otherwise. Every human being ever born was a child in the womb. There has never been a human being since Adam and Eve that didn’t come from the womb. You have to be either dishonest or an idiot to argue that an unborn child is not a person.

Everything depends on this simple point.
