"I think one thing that I realized, looking back at it and analyzing it, is people are very unforgiving and very resistant to change," Couric told this week's New York magazine.
The public reassessment marks a huge change for America's Sweetheart, who burst on to the stodgy network news scene last year as its first solo female anchor. But as her "CBS Evening News" ratings have plunged and her bosses mull changes to the show, Couric cast herself as a survivor - so far.
"I've gone through a bit of a feeding frenzy and there's blood in the water and I've got some vulnerabilities," she said.

OK, shame on me.
I was ready...and thus haven’t watched more than about 60 seconds of
CBS Eventing News since Katie’s arrival.
And that was enough to show me that I shouldn’t bother watching it.
LMAO, viewers fault,,,,,,,,,HELLO KATIE???? Did it EVER occurr to you that it’s YOU???
Oh yes, it’s MY fault I think she sucks....
How incredibly arrogant, Katie.
People just don’t like you Katie. They have been on to you for years but put up with you out of loyalty to days gone by morning news entertainment of the Today Show.
NBC saw the writing on the wall years ago and helped make it look more attractive for you to leave. You jumped the shark when you flirted with Hollywood. Remember, Hollywood builds you up just before they take you down.
I hope you saved your money.
Thanks for the insults, Katie, you arrogant propagandist ho.
Maybe if she ‘tarted up’ just a bit more..
She’s deluding herself, saying that the viewers weren’t ready for a female anchor. The viewers must be male sexist pigs since they didn’t like her.
News for you, Katie - you’re the problem. You are not interesting. You may be cute, but you just can’t hack it.
Go right on blaming it on your sex. Fool yourself. then you’ll fail again and again.
Try speaking well, coherently, grammatically, without bias. Then you’ll get viewers.
I would hit it, but only if she keeps the glasses on. /sarc
The media’s typical view regarding their viewers is that they are “six pack Harry’s”, i.e., too dumb to understand the real news.
No, she’s right, people AREN’T READY for her to be on the 6:00pm news.
Assuming an average person gets off at 5:00, home at 5:30, they’ve HARDLY HAD HALF A COCKTAIL.
An audience truely needs to be LOADED to listen to Couric.
She’d do better late night, I guess.
Aha! I see the exit strategy has finally begun.
The only time I watched it was when Rush was on during the freedom of speech portion. Even then I TIVO’d it and skipped through to Rush’s part.
Why would the viewers not be ready? CBS prepped us for months in advance of the move, even buying SuperBowl ad time...
