They said this isn’t a pardon.. but rather commuting the sentence
I expect Scooter does not yet want the pardon; he has clearly been railroaded by Fitzy and the judge.
This is a good move by President Bush; gives Libby the chance to appeal based on the merits without having to spend time in jail.
Thank you President Bush.
It is better this way. It still gives Libby the chance to appeal and clear his name and show it was a political witch hunt. If he was pardoned...I don’t know if he would get to appeal.
Stays out of Jail...since he should have never been charged anyway...and he can appeal...I think.
I didn’t think W would pardon or commute the sentence. I’m glad I was wrong. Now Libby can carry on his appeal.
Go Mr. President!
And it doesn’t look like the President will ever pardon Libby. So, the rest remains in place... It’s still a bad deal for Libby!
“They said this isnt a pardon.. but rather commuting the sentence”
If Fred Thompson wins, he’ll give him a full pardon.
The pardon will come IF Libby’s conviction stands after appeals are exhausted. President Bush is way too smart to eliminate Libby’s chance of ultimately being found not guilty through the court system. Libby has no present need for a pardon — all it would do is eliminate the possibility that he could ever say he was found not guilty.
