Dead US diplomat in Cyprus 'stabbed himself'
Breitbart ^ | July 2, 2007 | Not Stated

Posted on 07/02/2007 12:33:39 PM PDT by Islander7

The US embassy's defence attache in Cyprus was found dead on Monday on a hilltop in a remote part of the Mediterranean island after apparently stabbing himself in the neck, officials said. Thomas Mooney "died as a result of haemorrhaging after the infliction of an injury to the neck," an official involved in the post-mortem told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"The injury was compatible with self-infliction. There was no evidence of foul play whatsover," the official said, adding that the wound was caused by a sharp instrument and that the body was in a state of decomposition.

And Welcome to FR. I wish it were on a happier occasion.

Please forgive us some of our humor. It's only a way we try to cope with the frustration of living in a world gone so terribly wrong.

Wait a minute. You claim to be kin of the guy from Calif who died in Washington State many years ago, and claim to know the Lt. Col. personally?

I expect you'll get that quite a bit. We've often been the targets of such attempts by trolls on breaking sad news.

I’m sorry. We don’t believe it was suicide either. Our prayers and thoughts for you and the rest of his family as well.

“So not only did the poor guy off himself, he broke the law to it?”

You actually believe he killed himself by stabbing himself in the neck?

It was huge mess here in NYC at the time (mid-80's) and contributed to the demise of Ed Koch's administration, which resulted in New Yorkers voting - almost as an act of suicide - for David Dinkins.

What a mess indeed. I read somewhere (city journal?) that pre-Guiliani NYC had advanced further on the path of liberalism, and therefore had suffered more decay and chaos, than any other city in the U.S. Would you agree?

“unfortunately we may never get the real truth of what happened to thomas”

My advice would be to rest your mind on the likelyhood that he served his country and served it honorably until the end.

An extremely close family member would likely not be surprised that the actual details could be surpressed.

If I were wanting to go on a crusade of information gathering, I’d actually want as few details as possible released. Less wild goose chasing if you so dare.

FWIW, a large knife to the neck to sever the spinal cord is a taught assasin technique for instant life-loss. Not too common, but not unheard of... usually signals an experienced individual involved.

Will you find out the truth? Probably not.

Would you want the truth after the fact? Probably not.

If you got the truth, would you believe it? Probably not.

I am so thankful that i found this website. It is my refuge from the insane reports that are coming out in the press. If anyone can give me information as to how my family can apply pressure on the govt, army, whomever, to get to the bottom of the real cause of Thomas, it would be greatly appreciated. We will not rest until we know the truth. Sadly, we may never know but we will continue trying for as long as we need to in order to bring justice to Thomas.
Thank you again...Donna

I must warn you that this site is addictive.

As to how to find the truth? There are others more qualified than I to guide you there.

General rules of thumb:

Keep up the pressure.
THINK! What parts don't fit?
Find out what the lie protects and expose it (If appropriate)
Be a human, not an inquisitor
Talk to people face to face, as it is easier to lie to a piece of paper...

Good luck, and if the truth is one that can be shared, we'd like to know it too!

Thank you for your reply. What you wrote makes so much sense. I will take your advise and just focus on the fact that Thomas served his country honorably and remember him as he was when he was alive. You are correct that all this information is actually making it more painful. I probably don’t want to know the truth. It is a fact that he is dead. I need to rest my mind and just pray for him and his family that we can all come to closure knowing that he is in heaven with many of our departed family members. It’s just painful knowing that I’ll never be able to hold him in my arms, give him a big bear hug, kiss him on the cheek, and tell him “I love you!”

I am addicted to this site. I will pass on the information you shared with me to the person that is in charge for the family. I will share the truth with this on-line family if and when I learn what happened to my loving brother-in-law, Thomas. Thank you for taking the time to write back to me.

Well, that is pretty good, but did he also roll himself up in a carpet after shooting himself and carry himself out to the woods somewhere ala Vince Foster’s suicide.

Doesn’t sound like the best and the brightest are attracted to law enforcement.

So he crosses from the Greek side to the Turkish side to commit suicide AFTER he locks his car? This is getting weirder by the minute. Thanks for the info.

"He exited the car, locked up his car and then stabbed himself in the neck. Yeah, right...sure.

Don't forget the part where he crosses over from the Greek side to the Turkish side to commit said suicide. 'Yeah, right' is correct.
