From an article ( http://www.jacksonsun.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070630/LIFESTYLE/706300301 ) that I can’t post due to copyright complaint:
The gathering will be at LP Field, where the Tennessee Titans play. Thousands of people are expected to gather for fasting, prayer, repentance and worship, said Julia Richardson with TheCall.
The location and the date are both significant to event organizers, she said.
“Nashville is the headquarters for many denominations, ministries and publishers, as well as an international music industry,” she said. “It is also the buckle of the Bible belt, so it can represent the church on a national level.”
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love. It was during that time when young people from all over the nation flocked to San Francisco and began the hippie movement, Richardson said.
“The number seven is specifically significant because it’s the number of covenant, renewal, marriage and the fullness of time. Those words best describe what TheCall would like to see on 07-07-07. A covenant and renewal to Jesus,” she said.
This will be the eighth Call event in the country, and more than 100,000 people are expected to attend, she said.
TheCall is sponsored by Lou Engle, the organizer of former Call gatherings. He is a former pastor who now travels the country speaking to Christians.
“It’s time for an open, humble look at ourselves,” Engle said in a press release. “We can’t point a finger at society publicly, while we live in compromise privately. Maybe our leaders who have fallen are a sign and symbol of the whole church in the nation. From the head down, we are bruised, and beaten up, and we are being exposed publicly, but God wants to bring forgiveness and restoration.”
What makes this event different from other religious rallies and festivals is its purpose, said Richardson.
“TheCall is about gathering people to participate and not just to observe or be entertained,” she said. “We are purposely not releasing names of leaders and musicians, so that participants will come to give to the Lord, and not just receive from a performer.”
