That's the question Bobby Schindler asked in the case involving Jesse Ramirez, the Arizona man whose case paralleled that of Schindler's sister, Terri Schiavo, until Ramirez woke up. The Arizona Republic reports:
...Bobby Schindler of the Florida-based Terri Schindler Shiavo Foundation placed the blame on a medical establishment quick to dismiss patients with brain injuries. Why is Jesse alive? His family sought legal intervention with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund:
Schindler is the brother of Terri Schiavo, a brain-damaged Florida woman who died in 2005 after a decades-long court battle.
"What is the rush?" he asked. "This is not the first time we've heard of cases like this where doctors want to write off the chance of recovery, and the family, when they're told this, will make a decision to end a person's life.
"In the case of Mr. Ramirez, he'd be dead now."
His siblings and parents refused to give him up for dead, and today, Jesse Ramirez is alive and conscious.
Two weeks ago, he was the center of a family battling over of whether he should live or die.
Now, he can hug and kiss, nod his head, answer yes and no questions, give a thumbs-up sign and sit in a chair.

What poster? I don’t see any poster. Guess they are no longer here. And that is an ex post fact-o.
BTW “There are none so blind as Judge Greer who can’t see worth a hoot.”
Looks like we have some fallout from the attention poor Haleigh received.

House lawmakers will file legislation this week to open end-of-life hearings for children in state custody, create a cabinet secretary for child welfare, and enact other recommendations from a task force created after the case of Haleigh Poutre.
The legislation also would require written second opinions and recommendations from an ethics committee in end-of-life cases involving children. The legislation was unveiled yesterday by the House majority leader, John Rogers, Democrat of Norwood and chairman of the special House Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect
The bill would set minimum education requirements for social workers and increase criminal penalties if those legally required to report child abuse fail to do so. It requires mandatory training for those mandated reporters to help them recognize child abuse.
The review of the state's child welfare system began after Haleigh, whose adoptive mother and stepfather were accused of beating her, was hospitalized with severe brain injuries in 2005. The Department of Social Services, which took custody of Haleigh, won approval from the state's highest court to remove Haleigh's feeding tube after the agency said doctors had declared her to be in a vegetative state. DSS was criticized for acting too quickly. Her condition improved, and she was moved to a rehabilitation center....................................................................

ALKOVEN, Austria, JULY 25, 2007 (Zenit) - Euthanasia implies two choices -- either killing people because of their disability or caring for them and loving them as they deserve, says the brother of Terri Schiavo.
Bobby Schindler said this as a participant at an international conference titled "Sense and Obligation on the Present State of the Euthanasia Debate." The conference was organized in the Hartheim Castle, a site once used by the Nazis for euthanizing the handicapped.
President Heinz Fischer of Austria, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, archbishop of Vienna, and Josef Puhringer, governor of Upper Austria, all participated in the event..............................

"We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will give you no rest."
CLEARWATER, FL, July 25, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A North Country Gazette exclusive alleges, with evidence, that Michael Schiavo, who ordered the starvation of his wife Terry Schiavo in 2005, has a history of hostility towards co-workers, stalking women, vindictiveness and general unprofessional behavior.
Last year, the Gazetter reports, Schiavo was involved in a complex tangle of accusations against co-workers at the Pinellas County Jail. The first alleged incident occurred on July 31, when co-worker Diane Cross illegally gave prescription medication, a muscle relaxant called Robaxin, to nursing supervisor David Richardson in order to alleviate his extreme back pain.
Schiavo did not report the incident on the day it supposedly occurred, but he did retaliate in September and made accusations against Cross after she and other co-workers reported that he was not pulling his weight at the job.

I was reading, "Fight to keep Georgia man from death chamber not over", by Harry R. Weber - Associated Press Writer, on Ledger-Enquier.com (July 22, 2007), which says, "Davis, 38, was convicted of killing Savannah police Officer Mark MacPhail, who was shot twice after he rushed to help a homeless man who had been assaulted. The 1989 shooting happened in a Burger King parking lot next to a bus station where MacPhail, 27, worked off-duty as a security guard. Davis' lawyers say seven witnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimony that they saw Davis shoot the officer, saw him assault the homeless man or heard Davis confess to the slaying.
Three people who did not testify at trial have said in affidavits that another man, Sylvester Coles, confessed to killing the officer after Davis was convicted. After the shooting, Coles identified Davis as the killer."
Did Troy Davis commit the crime? I don't know, but the article goes on to say, "Prosecutors argue that most of the witness affidavits, signed between 1996 and 2003, were included in Davis' previous appeals - which were denied - and should not be considered new evidence." This is where I get concerned. The appeals were denied? What does this mean? Was it like in the Terri Schiavo case where the case itself wasn't even considered because of jurisdiction issues, or because it was felt it wasn't filed in a timely fashion or that it wasn't filed properly, or because it was felt there was no error or some other technicality that hadn't a single thing to do with the evidence that might have proven him actually innocent or shown there was doubt?

Ah, the pureness and goodness of abortion. On July 18, an abortionist who goes by the name of Beket blogged at Daily Kos that getting one is equivalent to attaining angelic status (bold highlights his): So abortion mill workers, who help women become angels, must be so righteous one should wear sunglasses in their presence or risk being blinded by their radiance. [T]hey are kind of like in that old movie "It's a Wonderful Life," in which every time a bell rang an angel got his or her wings.
[F]or many a woman the experience of having an abortion is
often one way of claiming her wings her wings of independence.
For many women abortion can be a transformational experience
one in which she is "born again."

NEW ORLEANS, July 25, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A New Orleans grand jury decided Tuesday not to indict Dr. Anna Pou, a doctor who was accused of murdering four patients during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Pou had been charged by Louisiana's attorney general on 10 counts, including second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder.
Earlier this year two nurses who had admitted to administering lethal doses of medication to patients at the same medical center were offered immunity in return for their testimony before the grand jury.

Don't tell me you've gone blind too!
Sometimes an extra cup of coffee will fix that.
Lo! A bill trying to keep bureaucrats from being stupid. I predict that bureaucrats will go right on being stupid.
It's a transformational experience for the baby, too. It gets transformed from ALIVE to DEAD. The child won't get to be "born again." It won't even get to be born the first time.
Have you had a chance to read through this thread about the Katrina doctor and see how the death culters try to justify these murders?
ANOTHER REPORT FROM BIRMINGHAM:
Pro Choice Y’all !
July 16, 2007 Birmingham, Alabama
In the city where Dr. Martin Luther King focused world attention on the civil rights movement and the injustices against our Black American brothers and sisters, Operation Save America has come to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the remaining two killing mills.
Where Birmingham once had seven abortion clinics shedding innocent blood,
two of the south’s most notorious abortionists have closed up shop and only
two clinics remain.
Today hundreds of pro-life Christian street activists marched through downtown Birmingham and stood boldly preaching the gospel to the New Woman, All Women “Health?” Care clinic.
Diane Derzis, owner of the death camp, had quite a day.
Sporting a light pink t-shirt with the slogan “Pro-choice, Y’all!” MS Derzis
spent close to an hour sweeping the driveway of her mill. Restricted behind
police tape across the street Denver sidewalk counselor, Jo Scott, shouted,
“You can sweep till you’re blue in the face but you’ll never be able to sweep
your sins away.”
Without the blood of Jesus and repentance, MS D can keep smoking
cigarettes and dancing around, mocking God about the innocents being
slain each day in her business yet, sure judgment awaits.
At one point, our happy death peddler rolled out a barbeque and pulled up a chaise lounge, as if the party was just about to begin.
Street preacher, Ken Scott, was approached by several officers claiming that
their morning permit to preach to the clinic and rescue babies had expired and the crowd would be required to disperse.
When that tactic failed, they returned insisting that Brother Ken “calm down!”
The assembled told the officers that the Lord was speaking through Ken and
that it wasn’t possible for him to restrain himself.
Inspired by the fire in his heart to save the lost souls who were leading others
to choose the way that leads to death, Ken moved to the corner and turned up the volume. The officers and few NOW “women,” holding “Keep Abortion Legal” and “This clinic stays open,” signs heard about Global Warming being on the way, “It’s called the burning lake of fire,” exhorted Mr. Scott.
The death camp was closed Saturday and this morning, saving who knows how many innocent babies from an unjust death sentence.
Three women entered the clinic this afternoon but were given stern warnings
about the price that will be paid for shaking one’s fist at God.
Sweeping the spider webs from the souls of those who lure girls into their deadly trap, promising freedom from one’s responsibilities, is a job for Almighty God alone through the shed blood of his only son Jesus Christ.
Praise Him that there are still saints in America who take this matter seriously and aren’t afraid to turn theology into biography in the streets of Birmingham, Alabama.
May justice replace injustice in the hearts of her citizens, ending this deadly holocaust.

Besides, there's lots of good allegations and truths in the big Call to Action threads.
Judge Greer totally pe-oed a lot of people cuz he snubbed Jeb. Then Jeb snubbed Terri eventually. That makes a long story short. Jeb caved and Florida is 600 million short. The State was so busy bumping Terri off that it wasn't run properly. No wonder Tom Gallagher isn't running for gov again. He was CFO. oops. Too bad our governor can only do simple math. We are toast.
Hi, Les. This nation is leaning pro-life.
Rhode Island starves and dehydrates to death over a third of their cognitively disabled people per year. That's more than all other states. And that doesn't include the ones they kill using other methods.
In 1999, 10.4% of the severely cognitively impaired residents of the United States were starved and dehydrated to death.
In 2000, 11.0% of the severely cognitively impaired residents of the United States were starved and dehydrated to death.
In 2001, 11.4% of the severely cognitively impaired residents of the United States were starved and dehydrated to death.
I haven't found data yet for other years, but I think it's a fair guess that the killings continue to climb.
This doesn't represent a percentage of patients who died (which would be bad enough). It doesn't mean that 11.4% of the patients who died were starved and dehydrated. It means 11.4% of all the people living in the U.S.A. with severe cognitive impairments were killed this way. And it doesn't include the ones who were killed using other methods, such as denial of antibiotics for simple infections, cessation of kidney dialysis, removal of breathing assistance, etc. There are some very barbaric methods being used.
The standard used for determining severe cognitive impairment for the purpose of this study is a score of 5 or less on the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE). Patients in a coma or PVS cannot possibly score 1, much less 5. You've probably seen people in the grocery store with a score of 5 or less. So these killings include a wide range of brain damaged people. I wonder how many thousands of people are living with a score of 5 or less. And for every 1,000 people living with a score of 5 or less in the year 2001, 114 of them were starved and dehydrated to death that year.
All I have before me are the percentages. I'd like to see the corresponding numbers. Or would I?
Following is the breakdown by state for 2001. Notice that Rhode Island tops the list, with just over a third of that population exterminated this way. That might have something to do with the fact that RI has appointed the pro-euthanasia group Choice in Dying the official State agency in charge of informing the public about end-of-life choices. They supply forms for living wills and assist the public in filling out those forms. This is what happens when you put the fox in charge of the henhouse.
Believe it or not, Florida and Texas are both below the national average. Every state is on the list. Georgia is at the bottom of the list, exterminating only 1.30% this way. But like I said, this doesn't include people who were exterminated using other methods.

GO: Coma follows four individuals who experienced a traumatic brain injury. What was your objective in making this film?
LG: When Terri Schiavos case was really captivating America, it was clear that this was an issue that people felt very deeply about and that they got their morality mixed up in, despite actually understanding very little. What if we could be a fly on the wall and see what the families were really going through? No matter what you feel about the issue you have empathy for those families. That was the birth of the idea.
GO: In Coma, you follow the patients rehabilitation over the course of a year. How do they afford long-term care?
LG: After private insurance cuts patients off, they declare bankruptcy and are picked up by Medicaid. That way, the state will provide the money for rehab. Im not a believer that they should rehab someone for years and years and use all the taxpayer dollars beyond a certain point. But I do believe at least that the first year after injury is a time that can determine the difference between enabling someone to have some quality of life versus simply languishing forever.

In the end, this whole endeavor might explain Karl Rove better than one would otherwise think. Mr. Rove is purported to be this Brilliant Evil Genius Political Strategist. But it more and more appears that his only genius skill is in lying, cheating and deception. When it comes to actual political strategy - just take another look at his disastrous resume and policy failures for the Bush Administration: the Iraq War, privatizing Social Security, eliminating habeas corpus, ignoring New Orleans, firing U.S. Attorneys, flying in to sign a bill for Teri Schiavo, allowing torture, vetoing stem cell research, Harriet Miers, trying to sell port management to Dubai Ports World, warrantless wiretaps, neglecting global warming, losing Congress, playing to the base and winding up with a 25% approval rating.
