Former Senator Fred Thompson took first place in a Presidential Preference straw poll conducted by the California Republican Assembly at its annual convention.
Thompson received 25% percent of the convention delegates' votes, easily beating the two runners up, Congressman Duncan Hunter and Governor Mitt Romney who each received 19% of the vote.
Complete straw poll results follow:
Fred Thompson..............25%
Duncan Hunter...............19%
Mitt Romney..................19%
Ron Paul........................12%
Tom Tancredo..................8%
Newt Gingrich...................7%
Sam Brownback...............3%
Mike Huckabee................0%
Tommy Thompson............0%
>We all know how well actor/politicians do in CA!<
Supported heavily by TV/Movies/Music, too!
Is this a new poll, or a few months old? There was one back a while similar to this, as I recall. Taking into consideration at that time that FDT was “more undecided” than he is now, but included in the poll anyway, candidate Duncan Hunter won that one hands down.
Considering the split numbers among true border control candidates. The last one standing will see a huge surge.
How did that clown Ron Paul get any votes?!?! Whoever voted for him isn’t paying attention! And Rudy isn’t even listed!
Thank God for Fred!
Yeah, we Californians do. I would vote for Arnold under the last circumstances. Remember Phil Angelides?
Vetoed Driver’s Licenses for illegals three times.
Duncan who?
Not by a long shot. Rudy supports the war. But Ron Paul might be to her liking.
It isn’t about being conservative, or conservative enough, or at least shouldn’t be. If you want an honest poll then all the candidates are on it. Especially since someone who hasn’t announced is included.
McCain isn’t eve on the list.
Name ONE person who is “pushing” both Thompson and Giuliani.
That’s ridiculous.
You have NO proof that Tancredo supporters would go for Hunter, stop trying to insinuate that no conservatives would vote for Thompson.
Thank God for Fred!
That Ron Paul clown actually believes in the Constitution and even abolishing the IRS. What a wacko. He should get a straightjacket for advocating those views.
Yes, thank God for Fred. He was not afraid to go on record restoring that that great democrat, "Burning Necklace" Aristide back into power, and, of course, proudly supported McCain-Feingold-Thomnpson, unlike that "clown" Ron Paul.
I should have gotten out of the CRA when they endorsed Gary Bauer for president. But I guess I was a glutton for punishment. If it weren’t for Mike Spence, they would be a laughing stock.
This endorsement for Fred T takes the cake.
“If they endorsed Gary Bauer for President, I would have to highly question their credibility also.”
Thank you.
You have no proof that immigration was the most important issue to this group.
You are just blowing smoke.
And that has NOTHING to do with your original post which said “around HERE” people were doing that.
It is stupid to say that Giuliani people are switching to Fred because he’s liberal. There would be no point in switching if Fred were liberal. They were obviously with Giuliani because of a lack in the rest of the field, probably that word you 1%ers just hate: ELECTABILITY.
All of the candidates believe in the Constitution. RP believes in the abolishment of the IRS. Good deal. Me too. But he’ll never get my vote, because I’ve heard some of his other views and he is out there. But you go ahead and vote for him...make Hillary smile.
I have found that one should find out why people do things. In the case of Fred voting for McCain-Feingold-Thompson, do you know why? As for Aristide, you’ll note that the US has on occasion supported evil when fighting a greater evil. Remember Stalin? Even Saddam versus Ayatollah Khomeni.
Wow!!!! A freeper defending our support of that pro-castro scumbag, Burning Necklace, Aristide. Simply amazing....but I guess anything for Fred!
