I believe you are paraphrasing what JeffAtlanta said incorrectly. Just because a handful of Republican Senators did the right thing doesn't take away from the fact that many more Republican Senators plus the Republican President were more than willing to give the country away.

Thank you. It is not clear why some want to lay this all on Reid's lap. We know Reid and 95% of the democrats don't have the country's best interest at heart - that isn't news. The democrats are the devil we know.

What should be disturbing is that a significant faction of the GOP, including the leadership, approached the democrats and worked with them to push us toward national suicide.

Even when the democrats had given up on the scheme, the republican leadership (spearheaded by Bush) put enough pressure on REPUBLICAN hold outs to bring it back to life.
