Demanding a Refund [Mark Krikorian]
Michelle Malkin has a great idea people who've donated (however small the amount) to the GOP campaign committees or to any of the Ted Kennedy Republicans should call and demand a refund. I understand it's party policy to provide refunds to those who ask, though I don't know if that's true. Anyone who has details on this, let me know also if you've demanded a refund, what happened?
Mickey Kaus is skeptical, saying that organizing primary or general election challenges, or recalls, is what will really get a Senator's attention. That's true, but not all are up for re-election next year, recall isn't widely available, and someone who gave $50 to Graham or Martinez isn't in a position to do any of that anyway. But he can ask for his money back.
I don't know how Republican politicians can object. Under the Beck decision, unions have to refund that portion of dues spent on political activity that union members disagree with why should Senators be any different? Heck, any Democrats reading this could also demand a refund, just like Steny Hoyer did a few years back (even threating a lawsuit) from party-switching Rep. Rodney Alexander, claiming the money was raised under false pretenses. Well, if you gave money to, say, Kyl or Webb, thinking they would stand up for America's sovereignty, I'd say there's a case to be made that the funds were raised under false pretenses.
To me, it smells more of corruption than love.
Send them a $.01 or $.05 check. It will cost them more than that to deposit it. Also stuff the postage paid reply envelope with extra paper to boost the cost by a couple of ounces.
“I see this bill passing the Senate in a few days...”
Of coarse it will. When a goodly number of “Republicans” are really Ted Kennedy supporters, this is no surprise. However, these charlatans need to be dumped in their next primary election. Every one of them needs to retire or be defeated. Conservatives need to start over, and if that can’t be done, they need to establish the CPA, Conservative Party of America.
“....organizing primary or general election challenges, or recalls, is what will really get a Senator’s attention...” By that time it will be too late, and the damn bill will be law, and Senator Kennedy will be laughing in his scotch. Oh, and there is no recall for Senators. Apparently they have to remove each other.
You know that a Stop Payment isn’t 100% guaranteed, don’t you? The check can still slip past and be approved for payment.
Flush the Congressional Bowl at least three consecutive election cycles and set Term Limits. This is the only way to regain control of this out-of-control Liberal monolith of a Government.
With the election of Duncan Hunter, or Fred Thompson to the Presidency we have a slight chance of removing the Leftist excrement from the leadership of the Republican Party. As it is established, up and still viable somewhat it would cost less and be productive more quickly than forming a new Party from scratch. If we cannot revamp the RNC, then a new party is the only option.
I believe much of what is happening overall is targeting the viability of Conservatives, and they are winning thus far. Placing R.I.N.O.’s in the leadership of the political party in which Conservatives are the base for example. We cannot let them make us irrelevant.
Good comments.
Yes, the foul stench eminating from Washington these days is a clear indication that we are waaaay past due for a "courtesy flush"!
In 1965, the John Lindsay campaign sent a mailer with a postpaid envelope to some leaders of the Conservative Party. They got teh previous year's Manhattan phone book, wrapped it in brown paper, and glued on the postpaid envelope saying "Postage Will Be Paid by Lindsay for Mayor."
Just happy to see y'all have come around. :-)
I think you are incorrect, though I could be wrong.
Some years ago I was able to get a union to return my involuntary political "donations". It was not a closed shop and I had to rerequest it every year within a fairly narrow time window.
I want back all that shoe-leather I’ve worn out walking precincts.
