You are asking the people on the border to fight on unequal terms.

Our soldiers fight on equal terms. Our police fight on unequal terms.

We are supposed to be the good guys, upholding standards and not breaking our own laws.

The bad guys are bad guys precisely because they violate all standards of law and decency. Transforming into them only creates more of them.

This was not an ambush or sniping of someone who may or may not have been breaking law, this was after a physical altercation where one agent lay wounded.

Really? Which agent lay wounded? What were the extent of his wounds? How was he wounded - with a knife? Was he shot? Where was he treated for his wounds?

Yet you ask this man to retreat and call the agency legal team before reacting?

No, I ask them to cuff someone when they have him in custody and read him his rights. Roughing someone up and shooting them in the butt may be fun - but it sure doesn't help if you intend to prosecute them later.

Try a ride-along with your local LE sometime to better understand how the real world works. It ain’t pretty.

I've ridden along with NYC cops and they are consummate professionals. A gold standard. I was enraged by the attitude of some of the people they interacted with - but they were courteous and professional to a shaming degree.

“Our soldiers fight on equal terms”

You know nothing of our military or doctrine. The entire point is to be as unequal as possible, to utterly overwhelm the enemy.
