I think we all have been mystified by the determination of President Bush and such formerly-idolized Senators as John Kyl to get this immigration bill passed. This morning on a Phoenix talk radio station, the host was talking about this very thing. He said he believes more and more that the CIA and Dept. of Defense have presented a nightmare scenario to the White House and Congress of what might happen if suddenly the $20-25 billion that flows into Mexico each year (via the illegals working here) suddenly stopped. He pointed out the high possibility of that country erupting in chaos and a complete breakdown of government, such as it is. America-haters, like Chavez and Abadnijad (however you spell that) would be only to happy to step in. I still hate the idea of this immigration bill, but this is one plausible explanation why it’s being pushed so hard.
I've heard this theory as well and think there's some validity to it based on just how close Mexico came to putting Hugo Chavez Jr. in office last year,
That said: WHY NOT TELL THE TRUTH, MR. PRESIDENT?
Must we go through all of this to avoid a much less intense fight over foreign aid to Mexico?
Let's not even discuss the much more "American" alternative of finding a way to wrest power from the Mexican oligarchy and spread it out amongst the people.
It Mexico is full of revolutionaries ready to explode against us, will it help to let a hundred million of them into the country? I don’t think so.
If that’s what the CIA is pushing to get this bill through, I would tell them “millions for defense but not a cent for tribute.” Or as Bush once said, “bring it on.”
So what’s to stop us from intervening in Mexico should such a scenario come to pass? Foreign entanglements in the ME?
Let the Mexicans stay HOME and, like the colonists here over 200 years ago, clean out the oligarchs running the place and start over.
And if it goes bad, so be it.
That’s preferable to having them all move here and DESTROY AMERICA FOR MY 6 GRANDKIDS.
