George Bush once said, “I’m not a southerner, I’m a southwesterner.

Out of curiousity, when did he say this, to whom, and in what context?

Being a southwesterner, I will admit to being a little annoyed with people from “The South” who don’t think the southwest is part of the “real” South. When pressed, they usually admit to being from “the southeast”.

Once, however, I got my own back. I was at a snooty upper class bank in the southeast, hoping to make a bank transfer. The secretary who saw me had her nose up in the air, since I wasn’t from one of the prominent families of the area.

She asked several borderline impertinent questions, but then made a fatal boo-boo. She noticed that I was from Arizona, so made a sneering comment, “You’re from Arizona? Are you a Yankee?”

Instantly, I hopped to my feet, and in my best impression of Foghorn Leghorn in a rare rage, I yelled, “A YANKEE!?!”

Within one and a half heartbeats, the bank manager was there, looking quite scared, and nervously said, “Is there a problem, Suh?”

“This...woman...called me a YANKEE!”

I think I saw the blood leave his face, accompanied by a look of sheer horror.

Needless to say, amid profuse and excessive apologies, my wire transfer was done immediately. I also have a feeling that that secretary’s day had just taken a strong turn for the worse.

"And the dynamic of the Elites verses Middle-class Conservatives"

There are a lot of different ways to classify and categorize groups, but one method campaign strategists use is Economic Elitists, Cultural Elitists, Economic Populists, and Cultural Populists.

Economic Elitists are business, industry, and investors.
Cultural Elitists are educators, media, lawyers, and govt employees.
Economic Populists are unions, social justice, and environment.
Cultural Populists are southern and heartland culture plus the religious right.

The democratic coalition is Cultural Elitists and Economic Populists. The GOP coalition is Economic Elitists and Cultural Populists.

The GOP coalition is dissolving.

The democrats' southern/midwest strategy in 08 will be to unite the Cultural and Economic Populists into Moral Populists

There are still plenty of Bushbots around here that would twist themselves into knots agreeing with Bush if he declared that the sky was green.

You would be called anti-american, a terrorist supporter, and of course, my favorite, a Traitor if you even dared to suggest to them that the sky was blue.

From the gitgo Bush has loved the Kennedys. He named FBI building after RFK, gave Teddy an award at Texas A & M, and let Teddy writed the education and immigration bills.

You know why? They are from the same class—New England elite. Teddy from MA, Bush from CT.

They do disdain the middle class, but love the riff raff they can lord over. Disgusting PIGS!!!

George Bush once said, “I’m not a southerner, I’m a southwesterner.”...and after dissing conservatives during one of his campaigns he once said "first you slug the dog, then when it comes back you pet the dog" - but this time it looks like the dog ain't acoming back......

Bush needs to start going to meetings, his behavior lately is what we alkies call a “dry drunk”.

1. Grandiosity, put very simply, is an exaggeration of one’s own importance. This can be demonstrated either in terms of one’s strengths or weaknesses. In either case it is blatantly self- seeking or self-serving, putting oneself at the center of attention, from the “big me” who has all the answers to the “poor me” whose cup of self-pity runneth over and wants all of our attention.

2. Judgmentalism is mutually related to grandiosity. It means that the alcoholic is prone to make value judgments - strikingly inappropriate evaluations - usually in terms of “goodness” or “badness”.

3. Intolerance leaves no room for delaying the gratification of personal desires. This is accomplished by gross confusion of priorities with the result that a mere whim or passing fancy is mistakenly given more importance than genuine personal needs.

4. Impulsivity is the result of intolerance or the lack of ability to delay gratification of personal desires. Impulsivity describes behavior which is heedless of the ultimate consequence for self or others.

5. Indecisiveness is related to impulsitivity in the sense that while the latter takes no realistic account of the consequences of the actions, the former precludes effective action altogether. Indecisiveness stems from an unrealistic exaggeration of the negative possibilities of the action ; so one wavers between two or more possible courses of action, more times than not- nothing gets done.

One of Bush’s orders as governor of TX was to remove a CSA memorial plaque to Texas’s fallen in the WBTS from a Texas state court building.

He is no Southerner...no doubt. He’s a self righteous good works politically correct about anything ethnic sort born of Yankee patrician blood who thinks himself above it all despite his downhome accent.

Were it not for his judicial appointments, Afghanistan, lower taxes and stem cell vetoes.....I would be absolutely livid.

Instead, I’m just angry and disappointed.

No more W stickers on my vehicles or thank you photos that used to adorn my walls.

I’m done with Bush. I don’t trust him--or any member of his Indolent family.

1) Who isn't?

2) Who does anymore? (Teddy?)

Texas culture is different from the type of Southern culture you find it places like Alabama, etc. It more closely resembles Kansas, than Alabama.

I enjoyed reading it.

President George W. Bush also called the bill "amnesty." After the outcry, Tony Snow babbles that he "misspoke." Snow has truly gone over to the dark side. For money? Or does he secretly share President Bush's fetish for illegal aliens?

This bill and the support it gets from our government truly shocked me. Some have asked: What does one do when the enemy is in the White House and Congress?
