A really great psychological leap has been suggested when man learned to talk to himself. This is because when you don’t talk to yourself, you tend to get either very focused or very unfocused mentally, which are not good states to be in if you are in a risky situation.
However, when you talk to yourself, it keeps you bouncing back and forth between a focused attention and an unfocused attention, which greatly improves your survivability.
Ironically, today, because there are now lots of times where you are not in a survival situation, people have to re-learn how not to talk to themselves, either so that they can become very focused, for things like concentrating on a written test; or unfocused, to do things like meditate.
And lots of people have a hard time in life because they talk to themselves so much that they can’t focus enough to do much of anything, even talking in complete sentences.
Interesting concept, thanks.
