“Under this bill, those caught crossing illegally will be permanently barred from returning to the United States on a work or tourist visa...” Under current law, those caught and deported once already are barred from applying for any kind of visa for 10 years, and that law has not been enforced. I see no reason to think that a newer, tougher law would be enforced. How about they go back to the drawing board and enforce the laws that are already on the books for several years to PROVE that they are serious, and then we’ll talk. All the Senators who are thinking about voting for cloture ought to remember what happened to Spencer Abraham.
