Bush vows permanent ban on future illegal migrants Jun 23 01:49 PM US/Eastern President George W. Bush promised Saturday to permanently bar future illegal immigrants from the United States as he renewed his push for immigration reform, a centerpiece of his domestic agenda.
A revised reform package was reintroduced in the Senate this past week after its predecessor failed on June 7 to garner enough votes to cut off debate and move for final passage.
The collapse of the first proposal has prompted a personal intervention by the president, who went to Capitol Hill to plead for giving the bill a second chance.
But while he has succeeded in putting the proposal back on the Senate agenda, the legislation is facing strong opposition from both Republicans and Democrats, who argue that granting legal status to an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants will only encourage more people to sneak across the poorly guarded border.
In his weekly radio address, Bush sought to address these concerns, revealing for the first time that under the revised proposal, people crossing a US border illegally will not only be deported, but never allowed to enter the United States again.
"Under this bill, those caught crossing illegally will be permanently barred from returning to the United States on a work or tourist visa," the president stated.
He went on to assure Americans the new bill puts border enforcement first.
The measure contains 4.4 billion dollars to help the US Border Patrol hire more agents, build additional fencing, purchase infrared cameras and other technologies that help intercept illegal aliens.
"Only after these enforcement tools are in place will certain other parts of the bill go into effect," Bush said.

Talk is cheap,Senor Presidente, actions speak louder than words..and I don’t like my Nations security being held in extortion for amnesty its a crime or should be. Why don’t you and Ted Kennedy work on that bottle of Scotch and dream up some other ways to screw America.

Worth a copy and paste for the future to promote the fight against Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
I just want to be part of the change. Impeach Congress and start over.
second that!
How stupid does he think we are?
Stop talking about immigration..... BUILD THE FENCE....
Then evaluate the problem. Most people correct the first problem before fixing the next problem to determine what other issues need to be handled. The President and Congress are really to ignorant to pass any laws.
I remember hearing all the same lies in 1986. They are less believable now than they were then.
Watch out! Like father, like son. When they move their lips they are lying! Come on, Jorge, how stupid do you think we are anyway? LOL!
They weren't allowed to enter the first time but that didn't stop them. And how many are deported, one percent?
I AM a former Bush Bot....
We need a Constitutional Amendment FIRST to end the policy of “anchor babies”.
Second we need to resolve the “safety net” for immigrants. They do not pay into the system. They did not fall on hard times, they CAME into “hard times”. Additionally, wire transfers are the second largest source of $$$ in the Mexican economy. Plenty of “poor” workers are sending their paychecks home to extended families. Why should they sponge off of federal, state, and local taxes when they are sending PERFECTLY GOOD MONEY back home? They are “poor” by choice and we subsidize it. The $$$ they send back home benefit the Mexican economy, not the US economy.
Trickle down doesn’t work when those at the bottom aren’t putting the money back into circulation.
Yep he'll just give them permanent resident green cards (not work or tourist visas) and jump them to the front of the line....Clintonspeak all over again
the Mexican Government will stop providing them maps and training on how to cross the border?
Not so sure our Congress didn’t have a hand in that part.
“Under this bill, those caught crossing illegally will be permanently barred from returning to the United States on a work or tourist visa...” Under current law, those caught and deported once already are barred from applying for any kind of visa for 10 years, and that law has not been enforced. I see no reason to think that a newer, tougher law would be enforced. How about they go back to the drawing board and enforce the laws that are already on the books for several years to PROVE that they are serious, and then we’ll talk. All the Senators who are thinking about voting for cloture ought to remember what happened to Spencer Abraham.
Guess What? Bush really is a “Unifier, not a divider”....he’s unified 85% of us who hate what he and his buddies are doing to our country.
Like a frog in boiling water we have been gradually immersed in this plot and weren’t expected to notice or care. Thank God we’re still free enough to revolt.
Strategery!
And what good is a fence if the libs make us provide ladders for the safety and comfort of the illegals as they come over.
Some don't trust Bush - I don't trust the libs/dems/congress and liberal judges. I don't trust the ACLU.
How about they go back to the drawing board and enforce the laws that are already on the books for several years to PROVE that they are serious, and then well talk.
Off-topic, yet similar, folks who want a ‘stomach staple’ also have to lose weight first,
to prove they are serious before their operation will be paid for by insurance companies.
Hahahah of course there will be a ban on future illegals.... Everyone will be made legal. Makes it a lot easier to ban a category when no one falls into it. Morons.
