Only Fitzgerald tried to undermine Our Country and Our Commander in Chief!
I'm beginning to wonder if we are not living through some sort of deterioration of the man himself and missing it because we are oriented toward the office and current events.
Although the president has always supported an open southern border he seemed to know early on that the WOT and other issues made 'reform' impossible in his term. Then, now, he forms or joins a 'bipartisan' coalition to ram it through regardless.
The president has been noted for loyalty and sometimes foolish support for his cabinet and staff. Until the Plame/Wilson/Libby fiasco in which he did a complete turn around.
He has certainly given the dems free rien to attack his policies and his administration. Katrina and Libby are only the most notable instances of administration acceptance of a beating. Instead, he reserved open, and self damaging, criticism for members of his own party and his own constituency when they voiced opposition to the one pivotal issue of immigration.
I'm not sure that reflects the man we elected in 2000 or 2004.
