These guys are not the same breed as most of us gear heads of even 10 years ago.

I had a 69 Camaro with a 454.
I drive a Vette now.
I am no stranger to laying power down.

And I am incredulous at the dangerous idiocy of some of these punks today. Not to mention incredibly poor taste. Giant spoilers that are larger then a Cessna wing!, and other silly accessories they “decorate” their cars with.

They have a lot more smashing to do if you ask me.
A lot more.

My street racing days were back in the 50s.

I had a 40 coupe with a big Olds that topped out at 150 and if some serious money came along we drug out the 32 fuel roadster on a
the trsailer that we held the drag and lakes record with in 54.

It's really sad - the auto parts stores are now filled with that crap. I used to think some of the stuff that was seen in the '70s - era J.C. Whitney catalogs was bad, but most of it was actually in pretty good taste compared to the "accessories" seen now.

The Pixar animated film CARS had a great take on this trend, with the outrageously accessorized "sport compact" cars cast as juvenile delinquents. One mistake in the plot, though... one of the juvenile delinquent cars wasn't a pimped-out riceburner; it was a Hemi 'Cuda Funny Car... as if a Hemi 'Cuda would be hanging out with rice burners. ;-)

I'm reminded of the Vee Dub commercials where they 'unpimp' zee auto.

Back in the 50s and 60’s we were 1/4 mile maniacs but knew the rules and didn’t play in traffic.

Today’s clowns play the road rally game and ignore the traffic. Big difference.

Keep crushin’! :-)

Isn’t that the truth! These ridiculous modified 4s are a far cry from the muscle/pony cars of our day.

“I am no stranger to laying power down”

And neither is the government in this case.

“They have a lot more smashing to do if you ask me.”

You are absolutely and completely wrong on this. Think of it this way, what if the government smashed your ‘vette because you exceeded the speed limit one too many times.

Why would you think it couldn’t happen?

The decorations I care not about... Heck, I’ve seen a Christmas tree on one up here in MN, but the driving skills, the cutting off of people & heavy traffic... That’s a problem now...

On an open road, you’ll see me fading away into the distance...

Which you used to engage in illegal activity and probably endangered some lives in the process.

scream it from the roof top brother. Loud and pound your chest too.

I’m 51 and before the chain auto parts stores when the best mom and pops store were the norm, if you wanted a carb trick, valves, heads or trick gearing in the tranny it went through us.Local auto parts stores. You better know your stuff and the parts counter guy better know his stuff.
We did. Way later was the manifold , exhaust, machine shop speciality hot rod stuff warehoused ,much less sold retail, locally.
And that was a long time til that speciality thing happened too.
did’nt fund themselves long either btw.

Lastly, market wise via the professional ( NASCAR ) and the drive one home retailer home owner ( GM , FORD , TOYOTA (( sucks )) etc etc etc et al etc.........
