New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg left the Republican Party on Tuesday and switched to unaffiliated, a move certain to be seen as a prelude to an independent presidential bid that would upend the 2008 race.
The billionaire former CEO, who was a lifelong Democrat before he switched to the Republican Party in 2001 for his first mayoral run, said the change in his voter registration does not mean he is running for president.
"Although my plans for the future haven't changed, I believe this brings my affiliation into alignment with how I have led and will continue to lead our city," Bloomberg said.
The 65-year-old mayor has increasingly been the subject of speculation that he will run as an independent in 2008, despite his repeated promises to leave politics after the end of his term in 2009. He has fueled the buzz with increasing out-of-state travel, a greater focus on national issues and repeated criticism of the partisan politics that dominate Washington.

Daughter will be 9 next month, her friend turned 9 last month. They’re both great kids and having the 2 of them here is actually easier than just having mine by herself.

The working people who pay the taxes that run the Government are the conservative slaves.
The dependents are the takers from the Government. This includes the retirees on social security as well as govt workers, students, welfare and EITC / low income dependents, etc.
Some people start getting liberal when they go from the role of giver to role of taker.
We have a dangerous situation in this country. Thanks to Reagan and Bush tax cuts more than half the families in the coutnry pay little or no income tax, while thanks to various welfare state expansions, especially in health care, more than half of families have a dependent on govt.
This is the heart of the conservative/GOP vs liberal/Democrat split - dependency.
This happens at the same time that Fred Thompson takes the lead against Rudy in the Rasmussen poll.
IMO, Hillary has two plans.
Plan A) Encourage a Tancredo type to run third party if Rudy is the R nominee.
Plan B) Encourage a Rudy type (Bloomberg) to run third party if Fred gets the R nomination.

I think I'd qualify as a policy conservative, and you'd have to hold a gun to my head to make me vote for Bloomberg. Luckily, because of his views, nobody on his side will ever be equipped with a firearm. Bloomberg will siphon off far more leftie votes than rightie.

School got out last Friday. The girls and I are having a grand old time, they were very disappointed when I said no about working out in the garden this afternoon because it was entirely too hot and there is absolutely no shade in my back field.
The lefties will probably jump all over me for having 9 year olds working in the “fields” but they will never get me for having them out there when it’s too danged hot. I may be an evil capitalist, but these girls know that if we don’t have the stuff planted and they don’t help pick it, I can’t sell anything and they get no special treats or a couple bucks in their pocket to go to the flea market or the carnival.
Yeah, I want to make some money, but I also want these girls to have fun and learn some things.
Under the regime of the Blominidiot, I probably wouldn’t be able to any of it.
