though actually if you check out the Dieppe maps (also known as the Dauphin maps) you will see that the Spanish mapped the east coast of Australia well before Cook. I have a Spanish mate who tells me in Spain it is taught that Cook used stolen Spanish maps to find Hawaii and Australia
