Durham, N.C. -- “The captains of the team met this morning with President Brodhead, and expressed sincere regret over the lapse in judgment in having the party on March 13 which has caused so much anguish for the Duke community and shame to our families and ourselves.

Sorry. This is not good enough.

Look, stop saying those boys ever said they regretted hiring a stripper. They DID NOT!

Now, having said that, I suspect that perhaps one day they, or one of them, WILL say this. If nothing else, one of them will say it in the book surely one will write. It's law of books like this....you gotta have learned something.

But those boys have never publicly said they thought hiring a stripper to be a dumb thing or have their parents. I'm thinking their lawyers told them not to because...why give the prosecution ammunition? I myself think that they shouldn't say such a thing until Nifong et al are dealt with legally.

But you accomplish nothing to keep saying that they said it. They didn't. And I'm not the only one saying that it was dumb for them to hire strippers. I'd be drop dead ashamed of my son if he did such a thing. Further, you know what I'd say to my boy? I'd ask him how would he feel if his sister showed up to give the show?

I'd ask him if he'd sit right on down and hoot and holler with his sporting friends, if he'd join in as they'd shouted for her to "take it off".

And if I raised my boy right he'd feel really squirmy and icky at the thought of watching his sister strip in front of a bunch of hooting and hollering ball-bearing monkeys.

My boy should trust his instinct. Because that girl doesn't want to take off her clothes and be humiliated like that, she's somebody's sister, she's somebody's daughter, she might even be somebody's mother.

Sure I'll not stop women from stripping for men for money, I'll not stop women from spreading their legs for money. I'll always condemn it because...well I've said why.

Ma’am, with all due respect, two of the young men had nothing to do with the stripper(s), decided to leave when they arrived due to disinterest (”disinterest” being the kindest noun I can think of), and were at a Mexican restaurant and a fast food restaurant having a hamburger at the time of the performance” (”performance being the kindest noun I can think of). The third young man who lived off campus as Team Captain and privileged upper classman, stood in front of the cameras and said it was the most regrettable decision he had ever made (”regrettable” being the wisest adjective he could think of due to the “malfeasance” of an unethical prosecutor).

How much blood will satisfy your sense of righteousness? If he ripped his garments, clothed himself in sack cloth and ashes, had to be prevented from committing suicide, would that be enough?

Well, let me disabuse you of any misconceptions you may have. That has been done in private and will continue to be done in private for the rest of his life and at the moment he kisses his mother and father good-bye at the end of their lives. Is THAT enough? Let me know, because I learn from each response.

People really should acquaint themselves with the case narrative before further discrediting themselves by making demonstrably false and potentially actionable statements.

You said a team apology “did not happen.” I’ve produced a press release proving otherwise. Fact of the matter is that the players have repeatedly apologized and anyone giving due diligence to the facts of the case as I have (Durham native) knows this to be true.

Further, while not very bright, hiring a stripper is legal in North Carolina - so the team apologies you pretend do not exist could not give ammunition even to a tore down scoundrel like Nifong.

Consult the case narrative - continued denial of proven facts does not become you.
