You mean, those treasures missed when Mao's Red Guards burned, smashed, uprooted, or killed everything old, graceful or literate they could get their hands on? Many of them probably still serve in the Politburo.
I think it's a bit presumptuous for the Commies to get snippy over foreigners salvaging Chinese artifacts, considering what the Reds themselves did with China's cultural heritage. As I recall, they spent a quarter-century trying to stamp out innovations like indoor plumbing as part of the imperialist legacy. "Modern" China is still a stew-pot of infectious diseases. I wonder why.
